So here I am at work. Wasting time and reading on CBM news for my fill of todays opinions. Today I stumbled across an article by a fellow member and thats when the Flaming Unicorn appeared. The lights in the office dimmed and I did what any self respecting man would do in a moment of uncertainty. I grabbed my nuts. The Unicorn said to me in his ever so simple words "Man you know better, talk that stuff you talk". So here I am to lay it on you Jive gentiles. Lets focus on a few things to place this villain situation in perspective. See theres level to this here villainism and lets explore the requiem for a supremly righteous villain. First off the villain must be strong enough to handle either its direct hero counterpart or several heroes. The villain must also be intelligent enough to have a well thought out plan that results in some type of either domination or destruction. And third the villain must be likable to a degree. There has to be something that either makes us love or hate the villain so much that parts of us actually wants the villain to win. Now I will give you a few examples of such villains and how they could evolve and the role they could play. Lets get busy......
Lets talk about strength vs. intelligence here. Now as we all know Loki was dope because he was intelligent and strong. He had a plan that evolved from his first appearance in the Thor movi. He sought world subjugation and dammit by any means his plan was to be achieved with a vast, a strong weapon, and a plan to turn the Avengers against each other. This worked because he was a legitimate threat to all of the Avengers. Strong enough to battle Thor and and army vast enough to take on the Avengers. Most movies dont understand that. Look at X-3. Although Magneto was a great villain but they didnt use his power effectively. He couldve easily gained the upper hand against them by simply disabling Wolvie. So they pulled a few punches to make it fit. Which took the movie from a possible epic battle to a cheesy one. Then look at Spider man I love what all the incarnations of Webhead has been doing he always faces a villain who has superior intelligence and strength on par with Spidey. The movies have cheesy parts but never anything to be taken away from a battle. The battles are epic on Spidermans scale. Then we come to TWS which was dope the only thing I kinda dislike about Cap is that his villains could easily be handled by any other Avenger except for Widow and Hawkeye. That part will start to get difficult as the series goes on and he continually links with the Avengers. Villains that Marvel could use that could prove strong are Ultron, Thanos, I wonder if High Evolutionary is available, Galactus, The Leader, Dr.Doom, Magneto, The Sentinels, Michael Korvac, Enchantress and The Executioner. These villains would be strong enough to carry a movie or 2..
Which brings me to my second point. Ya see a villain must have purpose. I like Zod he was good. He had a plan and it was we will detroy these people and build our city on theres. Nothing more convincing than a man who just wants to watch the world burn. Which leads me to Bane . A man who had supreme intelligence and one helluva plan to achieve it. Bane was more of a parasite. his goal was accomplished by taking the heroes strength. He took all of Batmans toys and leveled the playing field. He had enough balls to take on the Bat and win. I focus on DC in this part is because this is the one thing I think DC does well is they match their villains accordingly to the heroes. Ever think why Nolan would not do a joined universe it would've negated the impact of Bane and even the Joker. Flash or any other JL member couldve handled that. Now moving forward with Bats vs. Supes this will be difficult to narrow down because DC has so many near impervious villains. Batman may get beat up alot in this movie or he could be the detective we all know and love and be the key to beating the super villain. And I will not be one to not acknowledge that DC will not disappoint with the villain. Marvel needs to start to step up the villain game seriously. Malekith was decent at best, Killian and mandarin sucked. and Loki is doing too much in my opinion...
Now we get to likable villains. I find that Dr.Doom was done awful in the FF. Man there was nothing that made you want to root for Doom or feel bad when they took him out. Same with Deadpool and Silver Samurai what a waste. These characters were so poorly developed. Deadpool was dope until he actually became Deadpool. And the Samurai was decent but no story really. Wolverine took him out the first time he used the suit. Same could be said with Iron Monger. Now the Hulk on the other hand and Blonsky was well thought out. Blonsky was driven to be as strong as the guy who whooped him. And Whiplash was actually on Iron Mans level . It will be good to see that the villain will be as well embraced as the hero. Look at Spiderman and the sinister 6 in which they are trying to do. Already Im feeling Electro and Goblin just based on the preview. They have managed to be humanize the villains already as well as show their respective powers and abilities. See I have figured that Marvel is getting better with its villain selection but they still have yet ( Aside from Whiplash, Loki who I will include Thanos with, and Abomination ) given a legitimate threat with the villains. No one that we can cringe at and say now that guy will whoop some tail. Im looking forward to Ultron no doubt, but he must be a threat to be legit. I know alot of things may be said but think about it ? Who would be a worthy opponent to the Avengers individually when they need to go their seperate ways. I'll leave with one word to summarize my point.............. Hulk........ 2 words...... Fix That
