Gwen Stacy of Earth-65, a.k.a. Ghost-Spider, teamed up with heroic versions of herself from throughout the Marvel Multiverse in the pages of the hit series, Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse. However, this March, she'll have to confront her dark side when twisted clones of herself are moulded into Spider-Man's most iconic villains and unleashed in Spider-Gwen: Shadow Clones.
Written by Emily Kim (Silk) and drawn by Kei Zama (Edge of Spider-Verse), and featuring designs by Peach Momoko, the five-issue limited series will see Gwen transformed into fierce new versions of Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Vulture, Rhino, and Kraven the Hunter.
To celebrate this villainous new group that will turn Gwen's life upside down, superstar artist Greg Land is back with more homage variant covers. These pinup style covers pay homage to his iconic Edge of Spider-Verse #2 variant cover, which marked Ghost-Spider's first appearance, and will adorn all five issues of the series.
Hailing from an alternate reality where Gwen was bitten by the radioactive spider, Ghost-Spider (or Spider-Gwen as we prefer to call her) has been embraced by comic fans since she debuted in 2014. Over the years, readers have watched Ghost-Spider rise as one of Marvel’s brightest heroes but now they and Gwen alike will witness her at her most twisted!
Why do these sinister clones all look like Gwen? We'll follow the hero down a dark path as she must find and stop whoever is cloning her into infamous Marvel villains.
"I was a little nervous taking on Spider-Gwen because she’s such an iconic hero," Kim recently said. "But the rich story premise and fantastic team has made the process a blast. I’ve quickly fallen in love with Gwen and her unique voice and am excited for people to see how she handles a crazy slew of Gwen clones."
Spider-Gwen: Shadow Clones sounds like a fun ride and the first issue swings into comic book stores on March 1, 2023. Take a closer look at Land's variant covers below.
