Next February, we'll get to explore the Wakanda of the new Ultimate Universe in writer Bryan Hill and artist Stefano Caselli's Ultimate Black Panther #1.

The highly anticipated new series will introduce readers to an all-new T'Challa/Black Panther, alongside a new cast of characters who will shape this fresh take on the world of Wakanda, including Ultimate versions of Storm and Killmonger. Today, you can see them together for the first time on the cover of April's Ultimate Black Panther #3; we also have original design sheets by artist Peach Momoko.

Debuting in Ultimate Black Panther #1, the couple defend their people as heroic freedom fighters throughout the continent of Africa, but when Moon Knight's army launches a brutal invasion, they’ll help convince the powerful nation of Wakanda to finally step out of the shadows.

In the third issue, Black Panther takes matters into his own hands and embarks on a covert solo mission to deal with Ra and Khonshu directly. Wakanda's conflict with Moon Knight has escalated and even with spies all across the continent feeding information, Wakanda is overwhelmed. Everything changes, though, when a pair of freedom fighters enter the fray: Ultimate Killmonger and Ultimate Storm.

"I've always loved looking at outfits of tribes from all over the world," Momoko says. "And combining the modern and tribal, the beauty and strong, is something I always love thinking about. And getting to design for Storm and Killmonger, I wanted to respect the characters and also put in my soul and unique vision into them."

Following next month's Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Black Panther will be the second launch in Marvel's new Ultimate line that was born out of Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch's Ultimate Invasion series. The saga began with the Maker, one of the last survivors of the old Ultimate Universe, travelling back in time on a parallel Earth to create a world without heroes. He succeeded and ruled this world in secret through various global factions.

Now, he's vanished and a quiet war has broken out across the planet to shape what will happen to his kingdom. Some want to control the world. Some want to free it. After discovering the dark truth, a young Tony Stark embarks on a bold mission to make things right. Meanwhile, Wakanda stirs, pressured by internal and external forces to take its rightful place on the global stage.

Filled with modern takes on classic Marvel ideas and characters, the new Ultimate Universe is ripe for rich storytelling and a perfect evolution of the Ultimate brand.

I find it odd that Marvel does not announce a new actor as Black Panther (effectively T'challa Jr). It could bring a lot of positive excitement to Marvel...it has been a long enough separation from Boseman's passing, and since the franchise is already 2 films in then what's the reason to hold off on the casting announcement?

@Forthas - There is a new actor/Character portraying Black Panther, there was a whole movie about it

@KaptainKhaos - I am talking about a new Black Panther as an adult.

@Forthas - Her name is Letitia Wright.

@EskimoJ - Didn't she give up the role at the end of the film. It was unclear.
Origame

@Forthas - no she didn't. She gave up the title of king but is remaining as black panther. Similar to how in civil war tchalla was black panther while his father was king.

@Forthas - cause they’re nowhere near doing BP3 probably not till post SECRET WARS

@Forthas - blade was supposed film in like 2021 that’s why it was announced not remotely the same thing
Apophis71

@Forthas - Shuri is still the current BP, but not King, and we already have unless they recast the actor for T'Challa jr as he has already been in the film BP:WF and who will be a future BP...

...dunno how saying we sacked that kid in that film and here is another kid roughly the same age who will play the role next would add hype, if anything considering the reactions to recasting Cassie between Endgame and antmans third solo film could be a divisive move or net negative one...

...would be too soon to say a peep about a variant T'Challa sr appearing in Secret Wars as completely undermines Shuri only just gaining the abilities and assuming the title. That would come after the next film Shuri turns up in and/or for a BP 3 film when they would say anything about anyone taking that title even if casting for a character sans title were announced prior to taking the mantle from Shuri.

Forthas - 12/11/2023, 10:38 PM
@Apophis71 - I figured they would not use the same kid but rather age him up to an adult.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 12/12/2023, 3:11 AM
@Forthas - Probably will be an adult by the net time we see him, lol, but yeh as he was only 6 (currently 8) when it was filmed I think they may bring in someone a few years older. However unless something happens timey wimey in nature the character will still be a kid for another 10yrs...

...howeer a variant or decent age up could easily occur during Secret Wars or in the soft-reboot main universe after.

@Nomis929 - they brought it back. Isn't even the original ultimate universe. Just a new universe they're calling ultimate for obvious reasons.

Storm looks awful and cartoony - Marvel Bratz in the house!

Killmonger looks okay though - would be a good animated look for sure.

Q: Is ANY Marvel comic 'highly anticipated' anymore? I think not.
