We've known for a while now that Ryan Reynolds' Merc with the Mouth is coming to the MCU, but news broke this week that Hugh Jackman is set to join him in Deadpool 3 as Wolverine.
Chances are that the movie will bid a final farewell to Fox's X-Men Universe, with Wade Wilson somehow stranded in the MCU for future stories. It would be a shock if Marvel Studios doesn't take this chance to have him and Logan cross paths with some familiar faces, though, particularly if it's Cable's time-travel device that sees them embark on a Multiversal road trip.
Now, we've rounded up some MCU characters who we would love to see Deadpool and Wolverine share the screen with. Some would deliver laughs, while others could be part of some epic action scenes. What they all have in common, though, is that seeing them meet Wade and Logan would be a dream come true for fans.
To find out who made the cut, all you need to do is hit the "Next" button below!
8. Spider-Man
Spider-Man in an R-Rated movie? It's hard to imagine in some respects, but with Sony Pictures looking to take advantage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's popularity, they might consider it.
The scenes the web-slinger appears in could be chosen carefully, of course, and there's no reason this would have to mean Peter Parker is dropping F-Bombs left, right and centre (just look at how Colossus was handled in those first two Deadpool movies).
Regardless, fans are desperate to see Spidey cross paths with Deadpool, while it's also worth noting that the hero has a storied history with Wolverine on the page as well. Exploring both dynamics here, even briefly, would be a real treat and great use of the one MCU cameo Tom Holland is said to still have on his contract with Marvel Studios.
7. Thanos
Avengers: Endgame introduced time travel to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and, coincidentally, Deadpool 2 did the same thing for Fox's X-Men Universe the year before. If this threequel makes use of Cable's ability to jump around the timeline (thereby bringing Wade and Logan into the MCU), then perhaps we could see Thanos make his return?
The Mad Titan's story has been told, so these two stumbling into a Variant somewhere else in the Multiverse who is left perplexed by his inability to destroy them - remember, they both have powerful healing factors - would be hilarious.
The fact that Josh Brolin also plays Thanos would lead to some memorable fourth-wall-breaking jokes, and if Cable is also part of this scene...well, that would be even better. It depends on what direction this team-up ultimately heads in, but it would be a missed trick not to find a way to make this happen.
6. Thor
Thanks to filmmaker Taika Waititi, Chris Hemsworth has been given the chance to show off his comedic chops as Thor, and that arguably makes him the perfect match for Ryan Reynolds' quick-witted Deadpool.
The prospect of these two sharing the screen is exciting, and watching the God of Thunder attempting to come to grips with a lunatic like the Merc with Mouth would be great fun. When you throw Wolverine into the mix, things only get more interesting, especially if the God of Thunder winds up seeing how his Uru hammer fares against Adamantium!
Thor: Love and Thunder was a goofy disappointment, but the two X-Men Universe characters meeting a hero like Thor would be a huge draw for moviegoers and team-up we could have fun with.
5. Rocket
With his friends dead and gone, Rocket ended up spending quite a bit of time on Earth during Avengers: Endgame and familiarised himself with many of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the process.
While he later rejoined his fellow Guardians, it's not outside the realm of possibility that Rocket might choose to return to "Terra" after Vol. 3, finding himself face to face with Deadpool and Wolverine. The Merc with the Mouth becoming reluctant allies with this talking raccoon has all the makings of an instant classic, while we'd sure Rocket would get a kick out of seeing Logan's claws.
Bradley Cooper being the one that Ryan Reynolds would be trading barbs with is an added bonus, while we'd love to see Groot thrown into the mix for good measure. Just imagine him being inspired to create his own wooden Wolverine claws...
4. Captain America
In The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson became the MCU's new Captain America, though we've yet to see him embark on more than the one mission (Captain America: New World Order can't get here soon enough, that's for sure).
Needless to say, a Captain America/Deadpool/Wolverine team-up has just as much potential as one with Thor, and watching them butt heads would be a blast. With the former Falcon no doubt taking his new duties seriously, he could be sent to take these troublemakers down, only to find himself reluctantly teaming up with the unhinged Wade and violent Wolverine.
Anthony Mackie is a funny guy, and proved that in Ant-Man when The Falcon was dispatched to deal with Scott Lang. We'd love him to get the chance to stretch his comedic chops in Deadpool 3, and while it's a shame it wouldn't be Steve Rogers sharing the screen with Wolverine, we'd have no complaints about this happening.
3. Nick Fury
While Deadpool's solo franchise is likely to remain R-Rated, it would be crazy for Marvel Studios not to use the Merc with the Mouth in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Nick Fury could very well be the person who introduces Wade Wilson to a much wider world of superheroes.
Even if the bulk of this team-up with Wolverine takes place in their own world, how much fun would it be for Samuel L. Jackson to appear in a post-credits scene parodying the one from 2008's Iron Man where he (fails) to recruit Wade?
This is a cameo that would just be fun more than anything else, but not taking advantage of the sort of weird dynamic a character like Deadpool would have with Nick Fury would be a major missed opportunity. Yes, you could probably find a way to include Wolverine, but as Wade looks set to be a fixture in the MCU moving forward, we'd make this all about him.
2. War Machine
Iron Man's story came to an end in Avengers: Endgame, but Ironheart and War Machine look set to fill that void in a big way as we move deeper into The Multiverse Saga.
It's clear from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier that Rhodey helping the Secret Avengers in Infinity War didn't have too much of an impact on his career, so he's likely still working for the U.S. Government (the Secret Invasion trailer pointed to that being the case, anyway). With that in mind, War Machine could easily find himself crossing paths with these two.
After all, Deadpool and Wolverine's unexpected arrival in the MCU would not go unnoticed and if Marvel Studios is looking to save the bigger team-ups for down the line, then having these two get the best of War Machine...well, it'll lead to some killer action scenes. Rhodey is clearly going to be a big part of future stories, so a cameo like this could help legitimise him too.
1. The Hulk
Whereas we're betting Deadpool will become a permanent fixture in the MCU after Deadpool 3, chances are Jackman's Wolverine return is a one-off. Yes, there's a possibility he'll be tempted back for Avengers: Secret Wars, but until we know more about that movie, that's far from a sure thing.
As a result, Marvel Studios needs to take this opportunity to make the dreams of fans everywhere come true by having Wolverine finally square off with The Hulk. Jackman and Mark Ruffalo have also said they'd love to see this happen, and the threequel seems like the perfect opportunity.
Throwing Deadpool into the mix would only help up the ante, and if this doesn't happen, a lot of fans will walk away from the movie disappointed. We guess it depends on what the plan is for the Green Goliath, but if Multiversal madness is set to ensue in Deadpool 3, then there's no excuse not to head down this route.
