Though they're sure to team-up at some point, Deadpool 3 set photos have confirmed that the Merc With a Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) will go one-on-one in the upcoming threequel, and director Shawn Levy may have given us some idea of how the battle will turn out.
Levy was quizzed about the highly-anticipated showdown during an interview with Sirius XM, and while refrained from giving away too much, the filmmaker indicated that ol' Wade Wilson may not come out on the winning end of the fight.
The Real Steel director starts by saying he wishes he could go into more detail, before pointing out that both Reynolds and Jackman are completely unselfish when it comes to how their characters are depicted, adding that "both guys are always trying to set up the other to win."
However!
Potential spoilers follow.
“At every turn, Ryan is amazing at wanting Deadpool to lose. The truth is that Deadpool’s awesome but he’s deeply flawed…and Wolverine is Wolverine.”
We're sure Wade will get his licks in, but it sounds like Logan will ultimately prevail - which really shouldn't come as too much of a surprise.
Levy was also asked about the persistent rumor that Taylor Swift is going to appear in the movie, and once again, would only offer a "no comment."
So far, the only confirmed cameo is Jennifer Garner's Elektra, but if she's involved, you can bet that at least some of the other names we heard will also be showing up.
Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) will all return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown), who is believed to be playing Cassandra Nova, and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession).
Specific lot details remain a mystery for now, but Wade and Wolvie are expected to find themselves (trapped?) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A recent report claimed that Loki's TVA, including Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Miss Minutes, will be involved. We have also been led to believe that Wade's MCU debut will be far more integral to Phase 5 and beyond than we first realized.
Deadpool 3 was scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2024, but the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike will likely cause a delay. Though nothing has been made official, the trades believe the film will be pushed back to July.
