DEADPOOL 3 Said To Be A "Top Priority" For Marvel Studios As They Aim To Meet Planned May 2024 Release Date

The WGA strike recently concluded and we're hoping SAG-AFTRA members will also get a fair deal in the coming days. Negotiations are ongoing and, providing they go well, actors could be ready to return to work as soon as next week.

When that happens, there will be a huge rush to resume production on countless TV shows and movies, including Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3. While there have been rumblings the threequel won't meet its planned May 2024 release date, a new report from The Wrap contradicts those claims.

When the actors' strike ends, certain productions will take precedence over others (that's something studios will have to figure out between themselves) and, in Disney's case, Deadpool 3 is said to be a "top priority." The studio wants this movie in theaters next May so cameras will begin rolling as soon as possible.

The movie is expected to be an Avengers-sized event, so we're not exactly shocked Marvel Studios and Disney would like to keep that prime May slot.

Production began this past May and ran through July before those working on it were forced to down tools.

"We were halfway through filming Deadpool, co-starring Wolverine," director Shawn Levy later explained. "It was a joy every day, and that chemistry is, I have to say, spoiler alert, it is as relentlessly awesome as we had all hoped it would be. But we are halfway through filming, we shut down, our crew and the rest of us are awaiting a fair and equitable deal that ends these strikes and puts our industry and certainly inclusive of our movie back at work."

Deadpool 3 will be a huge part of the Multiverse Saga and is rumoured to feature the Merc with the Mouth and Wolverine rounding up a plethora of alternate reality heroes so the TVA can rebuild a new world when Kang's Multiversal war begins.

Alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Deadpool franchise vets Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio), and Rob Delaney (Peter) are all set to return in this threequel.

Emma Corrin is expected to play Cassandra Nova, while Matthew Macfadyen will likely take on the role of a TVA agent named Paradox. It's also been confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, with Liev Schreiber, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen among the many names rumoured to appear.

Deadpool 3 is currently set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.

As long as it doesn't feel rushed and unfinished then go for it.

So which one is it? Lmao this will make them No Way Home money, of course it's their priority. Shameless nostalgia lol

Just make sure you give the FVX the time they need alright?

Delayed VFX are eventually good. Rushed VFX are bad forever.

@Fares - Shawn Levy has been pretty clear that he doesn't want a green screen CGI fest, which is why they've been filming on location. So I'm optimistic that because the VFX will be limited, and thereby the time in post production needed reduced, they can make this May 3 release date without anything feeling rushed.

I still say it doesn't sound likely. They were halfway through shooting, meaning another two months of work, and then 5 months of post-production until the release day? I don't think so. They have to advertise it too.

That date is less than 7 months from today. Assuming the actor strike ends soon and they can resume filming very quickly, they’ll be at about ) months out. 2 months of filming, all post production, any pickups or reshoots, and marketing in that time frame? Sure seems like a lot.

@mountainman - Plus, I forgot to mention it myself, they would have a BIG press tour no doubt. Putting interviewers in front of Reynolds & Jackman to promote the movie would be massive for the studio.

@MosquitoFarmer - Yeah that May date seems like a recipe for disaster.

I know they’d rather have this there than Cap 4, but since that one reportedly finished filming they really should just swap them.

@mountainman - I would agree, cause I imagine those two movies won't have anything in them that would be a spoiler to see one movie before the other. But I imagine they have their reasonings for sticking to the order of the Phase. At the very least, I bet they want Cap 4 specifically closer to Thunderbolts.

@MosquitoFarmer - That’s likely part of it. Cap 4 and Thunderbolts will be closely tied.

Also, Marvel is probably banking on Deadpool 3 being a No Way Home like success (and it’s possible it could be). They try to have that early May release be a banger. That’s where they put their Avengers movies.

Cap 4 might be a big movie, but Deadpool 3 not only is probably going to be a huge mutant movie, but it also appears to be integral to the overall multiverse plot (regardless of what each of us feels about that). It makes sense giving it the prime slot.

But they risk hurting the end result if they rush it.

I rather have them delay it for a few months. I don't want a rushed final product.

There is zero chance it comes out in May. Zero.

I could see it maybe November 2024 or February 2025
