DEADPOOL 3 Star Karan Soni Reveals How Much The Franchise Has Changed Under Marvel Studios

Production is well underway on Deadpool 3, and one of the franchise's returning cast members, Karan Soni, has now shared his take on whether he's noticed any changes with Marvel Studios calling the shots.

Deadpool 3 will be the first R-Rated movie produced by Marvel Studios and one that, if recent reports are to be believed, will take the Merc with the Mouth and Wolverine on a trip through the Multiverse.

As well as exploring Fox's X-Men Universe, we're guessing these unlikely allies will eventually find themselves stranded in the MCU. It's an exciting prospect, but many fans have questioned whether Disney will allow this franchise to continue pushing those R-Rated boundaries.

During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Dopinder actor Karan Soni (who recently portrayed Spider-Man India in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) revealed whether he's noticed any big creative changes while working on the threequel.

"I have begun working on that one, so I can say that it is the same as the other two. It's like hard R. There's a lot of that stuff. So it does not feel different," the actor confirmed. "The only thing that, for me, is different is that I have not gotten the script this time."

"The other two, we did get it, it's a big difference, at least for me, the MCU part of it vs. the Fox/Marvel part of it. They're so strict. So I've only seen glimpses of what I'm in. When I did some of the stuff, I saw some things that I didn't know were in the thing."

If cast members are only receiving their part of the script, that likely means Deadpool 3 is packed full of big surprises. While somewhat in the dark about what's to come, Soni was quick to later praise Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy.

"[Ryan] and [director] Shawn [Levy], they work so well together, that I think it will be really exciting for people to see how they take the collaborations that they've done, now successfully twice, in this new version and play in this massive sandbox with a lot of stuff. It is very, very exciting."

With set photos continuing to find their way online, we're hoping a first look at Deadpool 3 might head our way sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, with Marvel Studios skipping San Diego Comic-Con, it won't be there that we get any sort of sneak peek!

Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.

I’m still apprehensive about the Shawn Levy thing. Like if you asked me “Who do you get to make a gritty, profane, irreverent, gore-filled comic book movie?” One of the last names I would give you is the guy who made Cheaper by the Dozen and The Night at the Museum movies. It just feels like the wrong kind of movie for a guy with his resume.

I hope he surprises me, and makes a great movie… but I am worried.

@santoanderson - We got two Iron Man movies from the guy who made Elf, and two Captain America movies and Infinity War/Endgame from the guys who made You, Me and Dupree, so....

What's the likelihood that Deadpool and Logan go in time and bring X-Men & F4 from the early-late 60s?

They'd be the hipster groups, bringing in family values and moral simplicity, making them instantly entertaining in the present world.

Karan was so good as Spiderman India. Fingers crossed this is great but regardless, we will always have DP1 and 2. I know the mcu shills hate dp2 but on rewatch, its still a really good movie.

@McMurdo - MCU shills? Lol I like DP2 a lot, more than the first one

@McMurdo - I don’t shill for anything but I didn’t like DP2 nearly as much as the first one. It just didn’t feel fresh to me. The jokes were a little tired and I REALLY didn’t like that fire kid.

I hope they make a joke about the MCU femenist agenda or how all the main heroes were replaced by PC babies

Dopinder was forced in the sequel. Always a concern I have with comedic sequels is getting too cocksure of what worked in the first and overdoing it in the follow-up.

@MosquitoFarmer - Yes, it's a common mistake. I'm all for meeting new supporting characters instead of older ones

There should never have been any doubt from anyone about the rating. Iger's "as long as we let audiences know what's coming" quote already confirmed it.

I'm super anxious about this film. As big of an MCU fan as I am, the multiverse trend is really getting annoying to me. I just want organic storytelling and not gimicky crossovers. And I certainly don't want Wolverine, and possibly other X-Men, getting comic accurate suits in the 11th hour in a film rooted in a dead franchise. We need to save that for the actual MCU X-Men.
