DEADPOOL 3 Star Ryan Reynolds Boards BIKER MICE FROM MARS Reboot As Exec Producer

27 years after they first revved onto our screens, Throttle, Modo, and Vinnie are set to make a comeback.

Even if you grew up when the show first aired, you may not remember Biker Mice From Mars, but the bonkers animated series has retained a cult following over the years, spawning a toy line, comic books, and more.

We found out back in January that a reboot was in the works, and the project now has some A-list backing.

Nacelle (via Toonado.com) has announced that Ryan Reynolds' production company, Maximum Effort, and Fubo have partnered up to produce the series. Executive producing alongside the Deadpool 3 star is director Brian Volk-Weiss, as well as Cisco Henson, Matt Kravitsky, Michael Goodman, George Dewey, Kevin Hill, Patrick Gooing, David Gandler, and Pamela Duckworth.

“Some people know that I am a motorcycle enthusiast, so it was only natural for us to jump on board Biker Mice from Mars,” Reynolds said of joining the project in a statement. “Maximum Effort and Fubo look forward to putting a new spin on this cult classic with our friends at Nacelle.” Director Brian Volk-Weiss added, “The same way you can’t have a hot dog without a bun, what would a biker mouse be without a bike? I believe we have definitely answered that question!”

The show is expected to be the first animated series on the Maximum Effort Channel. No premiere date has been announced.

For the uninitiated, you'll find a synopsis below along with the show's intro.

"On the planet Mars, there existed a race of anthropomorphic mice who enjoyed motorsports and had a very similar culture and society to that of human beings. Eventually, they were all but wiped out by the Plutarkians, an alien race of obese, foul-smelling, worm-eating, fish-like humanoids who plunder other planets for their natural resources. Three survivors: Throttle, Modo and Vinnie, manage to find a spaceship and escape the Plutarkian takeover, but instead, they soon find themselves crash-landing on Earth in the city of Chicago. Along with a charming female mechanic named Charlene 'Charley' Davidson, the Biker Mice must defend Earth and defeat the villainous Plutarkians, in an attempt to finally return to their homeland of Mars."

All the post-TMNT cool animal cartoons from the 90’s were wild. This one. Street Sharks. Earlier on there was Dinosaucers that was more Transformers influenced.

Hard to say how they’d translate today. But it’s neat they are trying.

@mountainman - Wasn't there like a Karate Pizza Cats or something too? Hold on, I must google...

Okay, lol, it was Samurai Pizza Cats. But for some reason I still don't that's the one I was thinking of. Pretty sure there was another Kung Fu Cats or Karate Cats thing...

@dragon316 - You’re talking about the first one that was more anime inspired and not the newer childish goofy one right?

I liked that first one. Very reminiscent of the Last Airbender universe. I’m really a sucker for Thundercats in general. It was my first scifi / fantasy universe as a kid that I loved. More than He-Man and Transformers and before even Marvel or DC.

I would love to see a proper film adaptation, but not quite sure if live action could ever work. The only CGI catlike creatures that have ever looked good on screen are the Na’vi, and Avatar’s budget made that happen. Too often, human/cat hybrids look terrible.

@ObserverIO - I just found this article taking me down memory lane.

https://www.cbr.com/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-rip-offs/#kung-fu-dino-posse

Are you talking about SWAT Cats? I remember that one. And Bucky O’Hare. And C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa. And a few others from the list.

But the one you mentioned, and a few others from the article weren’t ones I ever watched.

This one was never really on my radar, but as TMNT knockoffs go, I'm (obviously) an Adolescent Radioactive Blackbelt Hamsters guy, but also enjoyed Pre-Teen Dirty-Gene Kung Fu Kangaroos. My buddies and I even made our own in Middle School. I can't remember the full name, but they were Iguanas who had fallen into the East River. One of them wore a trench coat and a fedora. Fun times.

Fun trivia: This franchise is very popular in Finland, mostly because the Finnish dub of the original series added bunch of dirty jokes (which were not subtle at all and it's kinda crazy that they were allowed on a kids show) and references to local popculture.

This, Street Sharks and the Mighty Ducks series were my favorites as a kid. Had loads of all the various action figures.

And I loved Battle Toads in the video game realm.

mountainman - 7/25/2023, 4:58 PM
@TheVandalore - NES Battletoads was impossible to beat without a Game Genie.

The hover hike level would take you out most times.

If not, the surfing level would.

Then there was the snake level.

And that’s only halfway through the game!

TheVandalore - 7/25/2023, 6:58 PM
@mountainman - I'll be honest, I was too young to ever beat games when I played them back then. I just played cuz it's what my older brothers did. I don't think it was really till the N64 that I beat my first game all the way through. So yeah, Battle Toads wrecked me, but was so much fun. Iconic characters.

They really knew how to market anthromorphic animals back in the '90s. With Street Sharks and Biker Mice From Mars I never watched the shows religiously but I had plenty of the toys.

This show was awesome! So glad they’re doing something with this IP. Like Swat Cats, and Street Sharks, BMFM is a classic. One much lesser remembered animated show that didn’t run very long but I was a fan of was Defenders of Dinatron City.

Surprisingly hyped for this new take on Biker Mice from Mars

Oh the 90s, when so many cartoon was trying to be TMNT light. Street Sharks, Samurai Pizza Cats, Swat Kats, Biker Mice From Mars... all are just kind of rip offs. I think Biker Mice has the most potential if they kind of give it a more mature adult swim take.
