The SAG-AFTRA strike ended last night and it means actors can promote their upcoming movies and TV shows again. Ryan Reynolds, who has proven himself something of a marketing whiz, is already back at it and just shared a first look at Deadpool 3's Dogpool.
"Did Dogpool save the day?" the actor asks in a Twitter/X post. "Not a chance in gremlin hell. But she IS currently causing the Disney plushy merch department nightmares." He'd add that he's, "Coming with the movie, Summer 2024," neither confirming nor denying whether Deadpool 3 will still be released in May or shift to July.
Cameras are expected to begin rolling imminently now actors can get back to work so this may be the first of many teases Reynolds shares in the coming weeks. With any luck, we'll also get some more spoilery set photos!
In the comics, Dogpool is a member of the Deadpool Corps and was experimented on by Mascara X, a cosmetics company. Ultimately, he was mutated and gained the power to heal himself and, after being left for dead in a dumpster, escaped and joined the circus.
Dubbed "Deadpool the Daredevil Dog," he performed before his adoring fans before being recruited by the Merc with the Mouth into the Multiversal Deadpool Corps.
It's unclear whether Marvel Studios will take the time to explore that and whether Dogpool's inclusion in the movie should be taken as confirmation this is indeed a Multiversal adventure. For example, he may well just be Wade Wilson's pet pooch!
Believe it or not, though, the Merc with a Bark already has her own Instagram account.
Alongside Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Deadpool franchise vets Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio), and Rob Delaney (Peter) are all set to return in this threequel.
Emma Corrin is expected to play Cassandra Nova, while Matthew Macfadyen will likely take on the role of a TVA agent named Paradox. It's also been confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, with Liev Schreiber, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, singer Taylor Swift (potentially as Dazzler), and even Loki's Owen Wilson expected to appear.
Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
