DEADPOOL Writers Confirm That The Franchise Will Remain R-Rated In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

There's been a lot of speculation about whether Disney will allow the Deadpool franchise to remain R-Rated when the character arrives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the writers of the first two movies have now reiterated comments from Disney CEO Bob Iger that Wade Wilson's future big screen adventures will be adult in nature.

"I think the party line and truth is we’re all still figuring it out," Zombieland: Double Tap scribe Paul Wernick said while doing the rounds to promote that sequel. "Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe, and the hope is that they will also let us veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox."

It seems highly likely that Deadpool's solo movies will remain R-Rated, while he will undoubtedly make appearances in PG-13 adventures where he'll be toned down somewhat. How his franchise will fit into the MCU is hard to say, but we can probably expect a soft reboot which likely won't include the X-Men now they're set to be rebooted.

In related news, Ryan Reynolds recently took a meeting with execs at Marvel Studios!

I just hope that we do get to see him in a PG-13 film and he's aware of it. He could intentionally get clever to dodge the rating, like when a kids film has a subtle adult joke, or he could get frustrated that he's unable to swear.

The film should just start with Deadpool walking out of the boardroom where the Disney Fox deal was signed and then just have him exist in the MCU with no explanation.

@IKidYouNotMan - Or have it secretly set in the Fox-Men cinematic universe for the entire film and the universe is what's at stake. Wade fails at preventing it or causes it so he just pulls a Rick and Morty and hops over into a new one — the MCU. Or get really overt with the meta-ness and have the Fox-Men universe slowly deteriorating and vanishing, Wade's looking for a way out.

@IKidYouNotMan - film opens. Deadpool falls out of a portal. Makes some comment about Mickey Mouse. No other explanation

@KingCipher - HBO on fire this year, for real. It's like GOT was their sacrificial lamb and everything else turned to gold

No surprise. It’s making money.

I don't know why this is surprising. No one in Marvel Studios or Disney ever said they would ONLY make PG-13 MCU films. In fact they said the complete opposite. Twice. Yet people still argue that it'll never happen and tall about how they want an all PG-13 MCU. Which, again, no one ever said.

@CorndogBurglar - the headline is misleading. The headline say R - rated mcu then the quote says R rated Deadpool Universe. It’s likely to exist in the MCU when it’s convenient but also stay out of MCU when it’s not. Kinda like defenders Universe/MCU. I doubt it will be branded anything more then associated with marvel/ Disney in his movies. Parents would flip out if it was flashy a Disney logo at the beginning

@whynot - whynot - After re-reading it, you're right, it is a bit misleading.

Having said that, Feige made a comment a while back about being totally open to having Rated R MCU films as long as they made sense to be Rated R. And Bob Iger said something along the lines of "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" when talking specifically about Deadpool in the MCU.

So again, I'm not real sure why this would be a surprise to anyone, and I still don't get why so many people are absolutely convinced a Rated R Deadpool MCU film would never happen.

Also, MCU films don't flash the Disney logo in any of their films

I don't really want Deadpool in the MCU...

Imagine if that last Spidey appearance in the MCU (most likely it won't be but lets pretend it's true) is in Deadpool 3.

Using my last space on the Kevin Feige voodoo doll to keep Ryan Reynolds and his played out Deadpool away from the MCU.

Seriously tho, every time people start a narrative about what the MCU "won't do" Kevin Feige's powers just grow stronger.

@OmegaDaGrodd - well they've been saying for years he won't make an r rated superhero movie in the mcu and that still hasn't happened yet.

Unless it is from the mouth of Fiege himself, I'll believe it when I see it.

Clickbait. He said the movies will be r rated and the HOPE is that he'll be in the mcu. Nice start, but the title is a lie.

Definitely prefer Deadpool to stay R-rated (PG-13 would be ok though), but please don't seclude him to a "Deadpool universe"- the entire point of this is so characters can interact.

Probably the most “serious” avenger left to play off Wade’s hijinks would be:

- Dr. Strange
- Captain Marvel
- Black Panther

Strange if annoyed could just use magic to get rid of Wade so that lowers the stakes. Marvel is really just too powerful to math with Wade.

That leaves...Black Panther. Super Serious and brooding Black Panther forced to work with ridiculous Wade Wilson.

Yeah...I’d see that duo team up for a film.

Going to love seeing DP and Spidey team up. He is going to give the MCU hell its going to be fun watching RR with the rest of the MCU.
