Given the limitations of VFX in 2006, the decision was made for Vinnie Jones to don a practical costume and prosthetics to play Juggernaut in X-Men: The Last Stand. The result, unfortunately, was not great.
Back in March, the actor was quoted as saying, "Funnily enough, I just got asked to do Deadpool, the new one, and I spoke to the director, and I just said it's such a drama putting that suit on."
"It had its mental toll, as well, because you're in it and you can't do anything all day. You can only drink through a straw," Jones continued. "So we couldn't strike the deal for Deadpool [& Wolverine]."
Despite that, scooper @MyTimeToShineH is today claiming that Deadpool & Wolverine will feature a Juggernaut Variant. It's possible that Jones has been enlisted to play a CG version of the villain more in line with the comics, though it doesn't seem likely given his comments above.
However, a Juggernaut Variant did appear in Deadpool 2 with the fully CG character portrayed by none other than Ryan Reynolds! Perhaps it's that version we'll see in the upcoming threequel? We'll see, but we're expecting heaps of surprises either way and we'd be remiss not not mention the fact Cain Marko is Professor X and Cassandra Nova's stepbrother!
"The impact was real," director Shawn Levy recently told the Associated Press about the impact last year's strikes had on the movie. "For me as the director, and the producer, the multi-month pause happened right in the middle of filming. All I could do was edit and review the footage. But it taught me about my movie, and it really revealed what was working and what the movie wanted to be."
"It really focused our work and I think improved our work in the second half," the filmmaker added. "That’s not a luxury we ever get in live-action filmmaking."
Shawn Levy directs Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen. The movie is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.
The trades have confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, with Wesley Snipes, James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, Blake Lively and, as we mentioned above, even singer Taylor Swift among those rumoured to make an appearance.
Kevin Feige, Reynolds, Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, Simon Kinberg and Jonathon Komack Martin serving as executive producers.
Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26.
