While the MCU will eventually get a new Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is set to reprise the role in Deadpool 3 and is even rumoured to be part of Marvel Studios' ambitious Avengers: Secret Wars plans. An X-Men reboot still appears to be a long way off, and certainly won't happen in the Multiverse Saga (hence why we're hoping Phase 7 will usher in the "Mutant Saga").
One actor who has quickly emerged as a fan-favourite choice to don those Adamantium claws is Kingsman and Rocketman star Taron Egerton.
The Welsh actor previously starred in Eddie the Eagle alongside Jackman (if you haven't watched that, we'd strongly recommend hunting it down), and the current Wolverine shared his thoughts on the possibility of him taking over as Wolverine during a recent chat with Empire (via Screen Rant).
"Taron is one of the most talented actors out there. And you can see his range is incredible," he responded when asked about the prospect of passing the baton to Egerton. However, he'd go on to joke, "But he's just got to cool his heels a little bit."
We're not surprised the Logan star feels that way, even jokingly, especially when he's finally being given the chance to play the definitive Wolverine in the MCU. Over the next few years, Jackman could suit up, face The Hulk, and even team up with The Avengers!
In related news, it seems he and Deadpool 3 star Ryan Reynolds still can't agree on a title for the threequel. After he recently dubbed the movie Wolverine and Deadpool, Jackman caught up with Stephen Colbert and said, "We like to call it Wolverine 10 if that's okay. Let's call it Wolverine 10. I believe I've been in nine, well, including cameos I've appeared nine times."
Something tells us this continued back and forth will culminate in a title reveal, though your guess is as good as ours when it comes to when that will happen.
Deadpool 3 (Wolverine 10?) arrives in theaters on November 8, 2024.
