Josh Brolin On Cable's DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Absence: "Marvel Is A Complex Labyrinth"

It doesn't look like Cable will appear in Deadpool and Wolverine, and actor Josh Brolin has now addressed his Deadpool 2 character's absence...

Josh Brolin's Cable was introduced in Deadpool 2, and after initially serving as an antagonist for Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), the time-travelling warrior joined forces with the Merc With a Mouth and his allies.

It was Cable's future tech that allowed Deadpool to travel back in time and prevent Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) and the members of X-Force from being killed, so it was generally assumed that the character would return when Marvel Studios announced that a third movie was in development.

Though there is always a chance Cable - and Zazie Beetz's Domino - will appear in Deadpool and Wolverine, their returns have not been reported on by the trades or the various online scoopers who accurately leaked a lot of the other cameos.

While speaking to Brolin about the second season of Prime Video's Outer Range, The Playlist joked that since he's listed as part of Deadpool and Wolverine's cast on IMDb, he must be in the movie.

“Am I? Yeeeesssss! I so wanted to be in that movie,” Brolin laughed. “[Marvel] is a more complex labyrinth than Outer Range will ever be, my friend. And I will never know where that went or what that is or what I’m involved with or what I’m not involved with — the MCU being involved now. Cable was a lot of fun. I really liked doing that role. That was a lot of fun.”

We could still see Brolin as Cable again down the line, and it sounds like the actor is keen to work with Reynolds and Hugh Jackman at some point.

“Hugh [Jackman], I’m absolutely in love with,” he added. “I know Ryan [Reynolds] now, and I’ve met Hugh a couple of times, and I think when he did Logan — forget it! I mean, Scott Frank, who wrote it, is a good friend of mine and I just think the coming together of [these characters] is just fantastic. And Hugh, I don’t know how old Hugh is now—is he 56, 57? I mean, seriously, the dude doesn’t age. So, yeah. I’m a big fan of his.”

In addition to Reynolds and Jackman in the title roles, Deadpool and Wolverine will see Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), who will play a TV agent and Charles Xavier's evil counterpart, Cassandra Nova.

A recent synopsis for the movie reads: "After facing some professional setbacks while going through a midlife crisis, Wade Wilson decides to officially retire Deadpool and becomes a used car salesman. But when his friends, family, and the whole world are at stake, Deadpool decides to bring his katanas out of retirement. He recruits an unwilling and wary Wolverine to not only fight for their survival, but ultimately, their legacy."

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool and Wolverine from a script by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.

The movie is set to open in U.S. & Canadian theaters on July 26, and will be available in IMAX, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, Cinemark XD and premium screens everywhere.

Yes, marvel is such a complex labyrinth. As vast as a puddle, and just as deep (talking phases 4-5 fyi).

Wasted opportunity not to have Jackman's Wolverine and Brolin's Cable share screen sometime, innit?

I still think he may show up for a surprise cameo and is just being tight-lipped about it. Would be hilarious if they used CGI to make him huge like in the comics, as it would be a variant from the Cable we saw in Deadpool 2, and Deadpool makes some jokes about it.

Wonder if they would do the jean grey clone or just simplify it to cable being jean’s son

I thought his Cable was alright , kinda one note but made sense since he was out for revenge in the film…

Given that Domino is seemingly not in it aswell , I could see her & him having started their own mercenary business or something so they are away on a job.

Anyway for anyone that’s seen it , how is Outer Range?….

I saw a trailer and seemed trippy though i like the blend of western & sci fi conceptually.

I think Josh Brolin has the record for being in more comic book based movies than any other major movie star.

Jonah Hex

Thanos in the MCU

Cable in Deadpool 2

Dwight in Sin City II

Agent K in MIB III

Joe in Old Boy

@Nomis929 - I'm guessing you mean as different characters? As otherswise each one of the original Avengers squad probably appear in more movies. And Hugh Jackman is in all those x-men movies, plus the 3 wolverines, plus this new one.

@Doomsday8888 - would be cool for sure. Just seems like the more Ryan Reynolds thing to do would be to have him as Thanos

@TheCoonII - lol, "Eat"! I'm gonna randomly shout that at people from a moving car. Not "Eat me" just "Eat", lol. Especially at people who are actively eating a hot dog or sandwich or whatever.

I know the role didn't give him that much meat to work with (on an actor level), but it was wildly obviou in the press tour that he had an utter blast working with Reynolds, as most people very clearly seem to (except for TJ Miller and his wierd stuff).

@IAmAHoot - they did have good chemistry

The best cbm press tour recently for me is for FFH with Gyllenhaal and Holland.

@TheVisionary25 - Coincidentally, one with Reynolds I often remember is the one from Life, with Jake Gyllenhaal.

@ModHaterSLADE - I doubt that could happen until post Secret Wars. In the meantime, can we get 2 X-Men 97 spin offs into production soon? X-Force and X-Factor!

@mountainman - After the references to X-Factor in X-Men 97 I agree I'm ready for them to get the spotlight.

@ModHaterSLADE - My actual wish would be New Mutants, but the world of the show isn’t at a place where the OG team’s feel and style would work now. X-Factor makes the most sense for sure, and maybe it would be more of the X-Factor investigations vibe. X-Force could make sense if Cyclops wants an off the books black ops team.
