RUMOR: DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE's Primary Setting Revealed; Earlier Version Took Place During X-MEN Trilogy

A new rumour claims to reveal where the majority of Deadpool & Wolverine will take place, while we've learned that an earlier version of the story took place during a specific movie trilogy. Check it out!

Early Deadpool & Wolverine set photos offered a glimpse at The Void and, following last year's Hollywood strikes, production resumed and even more big moments from those sequences leaked online.

Tyler Mane's Sabretooth was spotted squaring off with the Merc with the Mouth and Logan, as were Variants of Toad and Pyro based on the versions of the villains we saw in 20th Century Fox's X-Men movies.

Since then, we've had a trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine which confirmed the involvement of Loki's Time Variance Authority and even showed Alioth laying waste to some unknown foes.

It's unclear how all this will tie into the wider Multiverse Saga or what we saw in the God of Mischief's two-season TV series; however, scooper @CanWeGetToast reports that 70 - 75% of Deadpool & Wolverine takes place in The Void.

We really hope that doesn't mean a repeat of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania's overreliance on The Volume (which was used to bring the Quantum Realm to life). Still, it's a creative decision which opens the door to heaps of cameos from pruned Variants and seemingly confirms theories that the title characters will find themselves stranded in this wasteland at the end of reality.

Interestingly, the scooper adds that an earlier draft of the screenplay had the movie take place during the events of the original X-Men trilogy. This lines up with what we heard early on about Marvel Studios' plans for the threequel and we'd bet on it being too expensive, particularly when it came to de-ageing all those original cast members!

"You have two major movie stars together in a movie playing their most iconic signature roles - that is director heaven," director Shawn Levy said last year, teasing this long-awaited team-up. "So the story, the tone, the movie itself leans into that gift of having Deadpool and Wolverine co-starring in a movie for the first time. So, we're definitely not running away from that."

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen. The movie is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.

The trades have confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, with Wesley Snipes, James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, Blake Lively and, as we mentioned above, even singer Taylor Swift among those rumoured to make an appearance.

Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26.

Yeah, that cheap looking set with Stagecraft heavy backgrounds

First I'm hearing about Wesley Snipes...i guess he needs a check to shake that beef off they had from Blade Trinity

Makes sense given what we have seen and known of the film so far…

I don’t think we need to worry about an overreliance on The Volume since we have seen them filming in location while Quantumania was all interior sets & green screen so it most likely will be a mix which is better imo.

Anyway , wouldn’t be surprised if Cassandra Nova has become the de facto ruler of the Void and is using variants sent there for her own means.

@TheVisionary25 - yeah I think assuming the volume will be used a lot is a weird leap to be made. We've seen the set footage like you said, and it's clearly on location shoots. Plus it's not like it's a super alien world or anything. Basically just a barren landscape with hills, and desert; not all that hard to find for on location shoots.
Origame
Origame - 3/27/2024, 12:35 PM
...why would it require an overuse of the volume when we know for a fact they've been shooting on location?

@Origame - That's the 1st thing that came to my mind when I read this. Makes zero sense.

vectorsigma - 3/27/2024, 1:18 PM
@Origame - it seems to me that all the action set pieces and cameos will be volume/green screen reliant.

All on-location scenes will be very limited but will be marketed otherwise to give the impression they are "learning from mistakes"

If its in The Void, crazy thought, but what if Cassandra Nova is a pruned variant of Charles Xavier? Do away with the messy evil twin aborted fetus of it all
MotherGooseUPus
MotherGooseUPus - 3/27/2024, 12:48 PM
@50ftNerd - i like that idea and can see them going with that over the fetus craziness

@50ftNerd - I've got a feeling the void is actually going to be battleworld. Alioth will eat all realities that didn't get destroyed by incursions
Fogs
Fogs - 3/27/2024, 4:52 PM
@Vigor - Yeah, that's what I'm guessing, too.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 3/28/2024, 5:14 AM
@Vigor - I had that thought too, but I really hope we're wrong about that.

Because the Void is just not as epic. In Secret Wars the entire multiverse is destroyed and Battleworld is made from the remains. But the Void is just a place in the far future of the MCU. You get a time machine and everything's normal again, lol.

Instead maybe they can use the same technology that sends pruned realities to the void and adjust the settings to help create Battleworld.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 3/28/2024, 5:17 AM
Also, people in The Void remember their realities. But Battleworld is it's on new fantasy setting, made up from dead realities.
Vigor
Vigor - 3/28/2024, 8:44 AM
@ObserverIO - I can see that happening too. Because it's all based on technology. Technology so advanced that it can SEEM like magic. Perfect for Doom eh...?

i just pray its a good movie, please. i hope it has a good plot, good character arcs/development and actually is leading to something bigger in the grand scheme of the MCU and not just a 2hr cameo fest of bullshit with no meaning at all... like alot of D+ shows and other crap movies (looking at you She-hulk, Secret Invasion, The Marvels)

@MotherGooseUPus - Finally watched The Marvels last week. My wife has been sick so it’s caused me to stay at home to take care of things and I was bored.

Overall I did not like it. Was a bad movie for a number of reasons. But I will say, that Kamala’s family is fun. They were also the best part of her show.

That scene in her house where the place swapping happened and she came back with the cat legit had me rolling laughing.

Wasn’t enough to save the movie, but there was like 15 minutes of its runtime with them as the focus that I enjoyed.

But god were Fury, the singing planet, the villain, all the girl talk scenes, and several other elements so absolutely terrible.

The theory I heard was that the original cut had a lot more of “the message” in it that Marvel panicked and cut out, which is why the movie was so short and poorly edited.

@mountainman - i told you it was bad... i hated it, one of the WORST MCU movies ever and this is coming from someone who really liked Captain Marvel.

it was an absolute dumpster fire
mountainman
mountainman - 3/27/2024, 1:08 PM
@MotherGooseUPus - I wasn’t a fan of Captain Marvel, but it was more middle of the road than bad. This was bad. Not sure if it was worse to me than Thor L&T, but it’s down in that “worst of the MCU” category.
MotherGooseUPus
MotherGooseUPus - 3/27/2024, 1:19 PM
@mountainman - i mean captain marvel wasn't anything special but i'd put it on par with Antman or GoTG Vol2... middle of the road but still good, not great, not bad.

Yea, i know how much you HATE L&T... i would say this is worse than L&T. For sure bottom of the barrel no doubt
vectorsigma
vectorsigma - 3/27/2024, 1:20 PM
@mountainman - glad we at least liked the same thing from it. They retained the family dynamics from the ms marvel series
mountainman
mountainman - 3/27/2024, 1:24 PM
@MotherGooseUPus - So The Marvels is probably a worse movie than L&T. I get that. But L&T is just my personal least favorite MCU movie. Won’t retread that.

How could would a Captain Marvel 2 featuring the alter/Skrull War, Korvac, Deathbird, or some other cool concept in it?
MotherGooseUPus
MotherGooseUPus - 3/27/2024, 2:23 PM
@mountainman - ahhh fair enough

and captain marvel 2 COULD of been a really good movie if they literally went in any other direction than the shitfest we got...

@mountainman - Deathbird, man. Maybe The Brood.

Could've been awesome.

So I have been thinking about the plot and I could see Deadpool having used the Time Device to create his perfect shared universe. Where he deliberately killed and removed plot points he hated and made a perfect continuity that saw the X-Men and other heroes in the 20th Century Fox universe join forces. In doing so he created so many branches in time that most of the Multiverse became a clusterf***. The TVA began pruning the branched timelines during the events of Loki without Wade knowing . So when he gets into the void he has a target on his back for all the villains and heroes who got pruned including Cassandra Nova who is a Professor X variant. But the TVA wants to recruit Deadpool as a Hunter and help prepare the Multiverse for Secret Wars.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 3/27/2024, 1:36 PM
Also I heard some people be like “where was Mobius” in the teaser…

He left the TVA at the end of Loki Season 2 to experience “what he had exactly been protected for so long” so I don’t think we’ll see him in this.

I think Paradox will be the Mobius of this film , if not for DP in general…

I do hope we see Hunter B-15 or Casey in the TVA though or even Ravonna in the Void.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania's "overreliance" on The Volume was not what made it bad.

It was terrible writing.

There was no sense of threat or stakes. I can't remember if there was any humor, but none of it stuck if there was.

mountainman - 3/27/2024, 5:44 PM
@Izaizaiza - It was an ugly, CGI mess, but you’re right that its look wasn’t the worst part about it. But it WAS very ugly.

Aquaman 2 was more of a CGI assault on the eyes though.

@JonC - a completely braindead take from this man. why even put it in an article when this website ran almost-daily updates of set pictures that were clearly taken outside? *and* we have a trailer that very clearly shows them using practical sets. i disappoint myself for commenting on this shit because the clicks and engagement is exactly what he's looking for.

At this point, the only way to save the MCU is for-

1. This movie to be good
2. Cancel any projects that aren’t directly leading to Secret Wars
3. Hire only competent writers and directors who aren’t writing weak stories and trying to get DEI points for Disney’s largest stockholder, BlackRock.

And before people @ me; I liked diversity and was pro Falcon Cap and all that jazz. But it MUST be written well. Diversity for its own sake is just preachy. But if it’s not the sole focus of the character and they have more going for them than just their race, etc then it’s good.

Just look at Spiderverse!

I like Tyler main sabertooth more over the version long hair look was better look for sabertooth and since many many fans say comic accurate with movies sabertooth long hair is comic accurate that’s not deciding factor for me with characters look in movies
