The D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event has definitely delivered big reveals for the upcoming release slate for Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The event revealed that Frozen 3 kicks off with the royal wedding and honeymoon, but the celebration gets cut short by a literal party crasher: a dark new Ice Queen.
The exclusive trailer shown at the event revealed a mysterious ice crystal opening a portal to a frozen dimension, bringing this new villain straight to Anna, Kristoff, Elsa, Olaf, and Sven.
We don’t see her face yet, but her voice and comments make it clear that she has zero respect for Elsa's ice powers or the fact that Anna is queen.
It’s not all doom and gloom, though. The panel also confirmed that Olaf is officially getting a love interest.
Josh Gad even took the stage live to belt out a brand-new love song from the upcoming soundtrack, proving that while the film will introduce a serious new threat, the comedy remains intact.
We also got confirmation that Zootopia 3 is officially happening.
The third installment is set to pick right up on that post-credits teaser from the second movie, which seemingly hinted at a migration of feathered friends will soon be arriving in Zootropolis.
"All of your favorite characters are back, plus new ones... flying ones," said Gary De’Snake voice actor Ke Huy Quan.
Zootopia 2 totally crushed it at the box office last year, racking up $1.8 billion worldwide, dethroning Pixar's Inside Out 2 ($1.69 billion) and taking the crown as Hollywood's highest-grossing animated movie ever.
Disney also pulled back the curtain on Hexed, their new animated fantasy comedy hitting theaters this November.
A new trailer was shown, where it was revealed that the film has some serious Harry Potter vibes as a young teen girl named Billie (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) discovers that she has magical powers and is promptly whisked off to Hexe, a magical land for witches.
The film originally starred a teenage boy during early development, but Disney likely felt that was "too" close to 'The Boy Who Lived' and switched the character's gender.
While on stage, Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush teased that Hexed is not a traditional musical, stating," There is a lot of music, but not in ways we have done in many, many years…”
Up next for Walt Disney Animation at D23 was a look at Clay, an original animated feature film from director Fawn Veerasunthorn (Wish).
At the center of the story is Flip, a hopelessly useless mentor who gets stuck with the job during a local annual ritual. His brand-new charge? Mushy, an eager, impressionable little ball of clay.
Flip tries to pull a midnight runner to escape the responsibility, only to learn the hard way that you can't just ditch a magical bond. Before long, the mismatched pair is dragged into a wildly funny, chaotic fantasy quest.
Succession star Kieran Culkin lends his signature sharp wit as the voice of Flip.
Lastly, Jon Favreau took the stage at the D23 Entertainment Showcase to shed more light on the intriguing project, Oswald, an ambitious live-action/animation hybrid 3-part miniseries.
While on stage, Favreau teased, "Now, the story of Oswald is set in many historic locations that Disney fans would recognize, like the site of the old Hyperion Studios in Silver Lake, Walt’s office, Office 36 on the Disney lot in Burbank, and then we got to shoot at Disneyland itself one year ago."
The miniseries premieres on February 17, 2027, on Disney+ and is timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the company's very first mascot, which actually predates Mickey Mouse.
The project stars Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew), Mykal-Michelle Harris (Raven's Home), Ryder Allen (The Penguin), and Al Madrigal, and also features (possibly as themselves) Kathryn Hahn, Amy Sedaris, Steve Martin, and Albert Brooks.
