Hollywood has come to a halt as a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but all anyone can seem to talk about this week is Snow White. Now, a new rumour claims to clarify the role of the "Seven Dwarfs."

Disney fans are understandably excited about the upcoming Snow White remake, but beyond that, the movie has largely flown under the radar.

The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb steps behind the camera to helm the reimagining, with Shazam! Fury of the Gods breakout Rachel Zegler playing the title character. As for the Evil Queen, Justice League's Gal Gadot is lending her talents to one of Disney's most iconic villains.

The original Snow White remains a beloved Disney classic, but none of the early Walt Disney movies have aged particularly well in the decades since they were made. The world was a different place then, and we heard early on that this remake likely wouldn't include the Seven Dwarfs.

You'd think Disney might have figured out a way to portray them in a way that would avoid offence, but set photos recently revealed a group consisting of one little person and a number of diverse male and female actors of regular stature.

People were quick to share their annoyance, with Disney being criticised for its "politically correct" approach to these iconic characters.

Now, a reliable scooper (via SFFGazette.com) has shed new light on this team, revealing that Snow White's new saviours are called the "Bandits." They sound very much like Robin Hood's Merry Men, while one of their members is said to be replacing Prince Ferdinand as the title character's love interest.

All signs point to this being a loose adaptation of the original Snow White and that's bound to be problematic for a lot of fans. Disney has struggled when it comes to its remakes, either delivering shot-for-shot remakes (The Lion King) or delivering new interpretations that lose much of what made the cartoons so well-loved (Mulan).

Snow White is set to be released in theaters on March 22, 2024.

Snow White and the 7 hobos is what it looks like. Peter Dingledork needs to shit up. He doesn't speak for all dwarves. He cost several people a job. Don't like it, don't audition. Just shit up dude...

Who is “understandably excited” about this film?

At this point, Snow White and the Huntsman looks more faithful than this. Bob Iger should step in and pull the reigns back on most of their projects.
