SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Actress Zendaya Reportedly Offered The Lead Role In Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID

Coming off acclaimed performances in Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Greatest Showman, we're hearing Zendaya may be Disney's top choice to play Ariel in the upcoming live-action take on The Little Mermaid.

As Disney continues its mission to remake pretty much every one of its classic animated films, a new rumor claims that the House of Mouse wants Zendaya to star in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid.

According to That Hashtag Show, the studio is very high on the Spider-Man: Homecoming actress for the lead role of Ariel, and has actually offered her the part.

We'll have to treat this as a rumor for the time being, but a previous report did indicate that Disney was considering actors of color for some of the major roles, including Ariel, Eric, and Triton.

The Little Mermaid doesn't have an official release date yet, but we do know that it's expected to film in Puerto Rico and Cape Town, possibly before year's end. Mary Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall is set to helm the picture.

She's racking up those red head roles. Hey let's leave a little for the minorities that are, you know, ACTUALLY GOING EXTINCT!!!

I'm kidding of course. I'm sure she'll be great.

I thought she was great in Homecoming, though her role was quite small and the whole MJ thing was forced and stupid.

@RorMachine

I thought she’d be a bit more active in terms of the movie’s plot.

And yeah, wonder how they’re going to handle the MJ thing going forward.

@regularmovieguy - My guess is still that Zendaya's MJ is still going to be the MJ of the MCU. It'd be weird to have two characters with that moniker. Chances are they go the Ultimate MJ route/Spectacular Gwen route and start her off as a geek who is surprisingly attractive and slowly becomes more like their conventional comic counterpart.

Hell she's clearly art-sy in the film so if she was in drama/acting her stage name could be Mary Jane down the line.

And the "just hit the jackpot scene" would work well with Zendaya by glamouring her up for a dance scene or something.

I could see it happening/working. That's just my theory though.

@MrDandy

I can definitely see it working out. The timeline of this movie is interesting though. I feel like it has to take place after IW. That means they’re going to be seniors or going into college?

Characters could be developed in that time. Could see a lot of changes.

@regularmovieguy - I believe that Far From Home is going to take place in the summer between Peter's Junior and Senior years of High School (so the tail end of his Junior year), meaning Spider-Man 3 will likely be Senior year. This would make sense because Sony will want to put out a Spider-Man film once every 2 years or so, which would align with Spider-Man having two films in Phase 4. This would give them a film for Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year, which was their original intent.

Wait... do things not go both ways? We can go from the Rock getting backlash for protraying a one legged hero but some how we can just switch all this shit up? Like if we are going to be equal let’s be equal and not pick n choose the things that best fit our narrative... I already know, feel free to shame me...
