Disney has released the first featurette for its latest live-action remake, The Little Mermaid, and it spotlights quite a bit of new footage from the movie.

In addition to interviews with the several members of the cast and some behind-the-scenes shots of star Halle Bailey performing with an orchestra, the minute-plus video includes more of Ariel frolicking under the sea with her aquatic pals, Prince Eric leaning in for a kiss, and some revealing new glimpses of Melissa McCarthy as the villainous sea witch, Ursula.

Check out the "A World Reimagined" featurette below, and keep an eye out for a new trailer.

Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy star alongside Javier Bardem as King Triton, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.

The Little Mermaid will feature music from the animated classic as well as four new songs. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who previously worked with Marshall on Mary Poppins Returns, will also compose original music for Mermaid along with Alan Menken.

The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

The movie is set to swim into theaters on May 26, 2023. Will you be checking it out, or giving it a miss? Let us know in the comments.

I actually think this looks decent. I've enjoyed some of the remakes, so I'll give this a shot.

@dracula - I'd say Jungle Book was the only fully successful one, but I did enjoy Aladdin for the most part.

@marvel72 @dracula @Markassidy - I'm with you guys. Jungle Book was the best (and the only I actually enjoyed tbh).

These live action remakes have mostly been soooo inferior to the animations it's painful to know the next one they're going after, it's like dudes in a prison being selected for execution lol.
