A new promo image for Disney's upcoming The Little Mermaid live-action remake has been shared online, giving us a look at star Halle Bailey striking a pose that should be very familiar to fans of the original animated classic.
This doesn't appear to be a shot from the film itself (unless it's been heavily edited), and is more likely a piece of promo art that'll be used on packaging/displays for the various tie-in merchandise that'll soon be hitting shelves.
That said, we'd be very surprised if we didn't see Ariel recreate this iconic image on an official theatrical one-sheet closer to the movie's release.
Check out the art at the link below, and be sure to drop back during the Oscars this Sunday to see the first full trailer.
Bailey stars alongside Jonah-Hauer King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.
The Little Mermaid will feature music from the animated classic as well as four new songs. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who previously worked with Marshall on Mary Poppins Returns, will also compose original music for Mermaid along with Alan Menken.
The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The movie is set to swim into theaters on May 26, 2023.
