Vulture reports that Kenneth Branagh is in negotiations to direct Disney's planned remake of Cinderella after original director Mark Romanek dropped out earlier this month. The plan is for the film to start shooting this Fall in London. According to the site, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey's Cate Blanchett is STILL attached to play the wicked stepmother, although the hunt for Cinderella continues. It's thought that the film is being lined up for a 2014 release, although that may end up hinging on whether or not the Jack Ryan helmer ends up accepting the gig!

I love this guy!!!! I really wish he'd do something else other than Cinderella though! I could totally see him directing Game of Thrones or someother middevil fantasy epic! He'd be awesome for a Silmarillion film or a Dune movie. He'd be great for an adaptation of Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun! It mixes science and fantasy! PROFESSOR LOCKHART RULES!!

I believe they are going to make a cinematic movie universe for all the Disney characters and princeses..
they already did Snow White.. Have hemsworth make cameos in other Dinsey films, since that Sleeping beauty movie is coming out and now this..
I can see it being great.

Neither "Snow White and the Huntsman" nor that one with Julia Roberts were made by Disney. Disney just made that "Alice in Wonderland" flick and the upcoming "Maleficent" one based on the villain from Sleeping Beauty (interesting that they're not plugging that summer release nearly as much as "OZ" or "The Lone Ranger")... so it's hard to say if they've really established a trend of having the heroine armor up for battle in all of them.

I'm actually not against this whole live action remakes of Disney classics.....so far. But if they make a Little Mermaid remake before Aquaman HEADS WILL ROLL
