Earlier this week, Walt Disney Animation Studios released a new trailer and poster for Wish (via Toonado.com) ahead of its debut exclusively in theaters on November 22.

This sneak peek introduces 17-year-old Asha, the powerful King Magnifico, Asha's pet goat Valentino, and Star, a celestial ball of boundless energy that Asha's wish calls down from the sky. It also features a snippet of the song "This Wish," performed by Ariana DeBose; it’s one of several new songs written by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice for the film.

The animated musical-comedy will take us to Rosas, a fantastical land located off the Iberian Peninsula.

"Our heroine, Asha, lives in Rosas, known as the kingdom of wishes," director Chris Buck, who helms Wish alongside Fawn Veerasunthorn, explains. "People come from everywhere to give their wishes to a magical king who promises to grant their deepest desires - someday. Only he can decide which wishes will come true and when."

Veerasunthorn adds, "We have been inspired by so many iconic films over Disney Animation’s 100 years, especially stories where we explore the power of someone with a wish, combined with the conviction to make that wish come true. Being able to honor that legacy with this incredible story and these amazing characters has been a joy for our entire team."

In Wish, Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force - a little ball of boundless energy called Star.

Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe - the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico - to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.

The movie features the voices of Academy Award-winning actor Ariana DeBose as Asha, Wonder Woman star Chris Pine as Magnifico, and Alan Tudyk as Asha's favourite goat, Valentino.

Chris Pine to play a young Emperor after that laugh!

@Se4M4NSt4ine - Emperor Palpatine? Haven't watched yet, but came to the comments to say the thumbnail looked like a Pixar Jedi to me.

With Pixar and Lucas animation under the same Mouse shaped umbrella, I'd love to see the Clone Wars folks and the Pixar folks team up for a project. The Disney Pixar sheen on Star Wars stuff seems like an obvious thing. Disney WAS known for breaking molds with animation, and Star Wars is a IP which can flourish in animation, way beyond simple fair like Rebels and Visions. Why don't we have 20 animated Star Wars shows all in different animation styles, taking on different eras and stories and tones?

I like this animation style. Still comparable to that current Disney animation style, but just a bit more cartoon-y. Much better than the realistic style

I'm just happy Disney Animation is going back to its Conservative roots after Strange World, plus I'm always in the mood for musicals!

These Disney/Pixar movies are all starting to look the same.

Reminds me of the comic Eight Billion Genies. It has an issue where a guy sets up a community but people have to give their wishes to him in order to join it.

Has there ever been a Disney movie where there was a male protagonist with a woman villain?

@Matchesz - 101 Dalmations? Cruella DeVille of course is the villain; Pongo’s a dog, but he is a guy along with his owner.

Maleficent? Although the prince isn’t the main protagonist.

Madame Mim from Sword In The Stone? Two male leads vs a witch. She’s not the “main” villain however.

And of course, now we have new Disney material that makes 2/3 of those examples “misunderstood” heroes, not villains.

@Matchesz - hmm…Sleeping Beauty has the final battle between a male protagonist and Maleficient but the three fairies are more the main characters.

@Matchesz - Hm, that's what I thought....

Wish they'd have a woman villain stripper that drugs and robs the male protagonist or one that falsely accuses the male protagonist of being emotionally and physically abusive ruining his life and career..

Finally a real villain again. This looks fantastic and I’m loving the animation style. It really is great how Into the SpiderVerse reinvigorated creative art styles in animation.
