The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been a huge hit for Prime Video, with the streaming service touting the fact it's been viewed by more than 100 million people worldwide.

The series, which has reportedly been an unprecedented global success as the top Original series for Prime Video in every region in its first season, has announced today (via SFFGazettecom) that acclaimed actors Ciarán Hinds, Rory Kinnear, and Tanya Moodie have joined the show's cast in recurring roles.

There's no word on who they will play in season 2, but this trio are among some of the biggest names added to The Rings of Power's cast to date.

Hinds was nominated for both an Oscar and a BAFTA Award for his world in Belfast and counts the likes of Road to PerditionHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and Game of Thrones among his many credits. However, many of you are sure to know him best for bringing Steppenwolf to life in Zack Snyder's Justice League

As for Kinnear, he's known for playing Bill Tanner in the James Bond movies Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre. Currently, he can be seen in Taika Waititi's Our Flag Means Death.

Last but not least is Tanya Moodie, a well-known British actress who has racked up a lot of great roles in the likes of Hunter, Sherlock, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (where she played General Parnadee). Most recently, Moodie was seen in Sam Mendes' Empire of Light.

As is so often the case, we don't know who any of these actors are playing in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power as that information is being kept a closely guarded secret for now.

Amazing casting. Hugely wasted potential.

Oh man, Our Flag Means Death…

Like I do think that kind of ensemble cast show is the perfect vehicle for diversity, and I like that Taika did his best to show a diverse range of sexual identities.

But yo, that show is weird. It’s like the opposite of MCU Humour. Whereas in the MCU, you have dramatic build-up which is deflated by an unnecessary quip, what I’ve seen in the show is a comedic build-up which is deflated by unnecessary drama.

It’s so jarring. Plus Taika casting himself as Blackbeard is such a detriment. Rory is cool in it though.

This show is dead on arrival. Season 1 was atrocious and I haven’t met a single person who could get into it.

They so screwed the pooch on this show. They spent a zillion dollars on season 1 and did it all wrong.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with diversity in TV/movies. It is very important in today's world wide culture.

But... If you spend all your creative juice on it & pay no attention to quality, you just wind up looking stupid & pandering.

Quality & diversity can lead to great films like Black Panther, Spider-Man Homecoming & The Batman.

Diversity without quality leads to crap like Catwoman & LOTR season 1.

You would think Hollywood would learn, but they rarely do.

@DocSpock - I don't feel the diversity was the problem. It was the story for sure.

From moment one we know it was about the rings, Sauron and Gandalf, but they just kept dancing around it until the last episode. At that point, all my interest was lost.

@bkmeijer1 -

I totally agree. Even if season 2 is great, a lot of people won't watch it because of the bad seaspn 1. I love all JRRT stuff, but this thing was a kick in the nuts to me.

@DocSpock - it didn't really feel very Tolkien to me. More just general fantasy (and not all that great fantasy either).

The Tolkien stuff that was there, was great though. More of that stuff like Elrond chilling with the Dwarves please!

Really hope season 2 can pick up some steam. The first season just drew everything out may to much, while it was clear it was about the Rings, Sauron and Gandalf. Show just didn't wanna admit it.

Anyway, hopefully the second season is the War of Elves and Sauron. Wanna see some more battles, which should be possible with that budget.
