More than 20 character posters for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power have been released by Amazon Prime today, but there's a catch: we don't actually get to see any of their faces!
Anyway, we're assuming the marketing team in charge of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power doesn't have a serious hand fetish. Instead, it appears the idea is to drive home the fact that any one of these characters could end up wielding the rings that were forged prior to the original trilogy.
It's also a clever way to create speculation about who is who and what significance the props and costumes have. Of all the posters here, that Dark Lord's gauntlet is particularly intriguing. While it's easy to assume that it's Sauron, we'd bet on it belonging to that iconic villain's master, Morgoth.
Shot in New Zealand, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power's first season cost a whopping $465 million to produce. We recently learned that it takes place during "the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth's history," bring us "back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness."
"Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared reemergence of evil to Middle-earth," the synopsis continues. "From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone."
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Friday, September 2.
