GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY And THE WALKING DEAD Star Michael Rooker Lands Leading Role In New Film Franchise

It may be a toss up whether Michael Rooker is more known for his portrayal of Guardians of the Galaxy's blue-skinned alien space pirate and part time Step-Father to Peter Quill, Yondu Udonta, or if he is more commonly known for his foul-mouthed southern Merle Dixon from The Walking Dead. It's also possible that people recognize him as "that guy who pops up in all of Jame's Gunn's movies.

Regardless of which performance he is most widely known for, with any luck Rooker will soon be known for his upcoming leading role in a movie franchise titled Monster Problems. Leading the cast alongside Dylan O'Brien of The Maze Runner, Rooker's character will be an expert hunter named Clyde who teaches O'Brien's character, Joel Dawson, how to survive the Monster Apocalypse.

The script is from Brian Duffield and Matthew Robinson, and it has been described as a coming-of-age story in a post-apocalyptic world run by monsters. The film is being produced by Shawn Levy at 21 Laps and is set to be directed by Five Fingers For Marsailles' Michael Matthews.

All of that sounds like a pretty awesome time with Rooker at the forefront but it's hard to deny that it would have also been nice to see a Yondu/Star Lord movie with a younger Quill as a part of the Ravagers instead. What do you guys think though? Ready to see Rooker do something fresh?

While there is no current date set for Monster Problems to be released, fans of Rooker can currently catch him in the third season of the HBO series True Detective.
