James Gunn has taken to Twitter to confirm that he's finished writing The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It will hit Disney+ next Christmas, and the plan is to shoot it while cameras are rolling on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (the director will also film content for that new Disney World ride).
Answering fan questions, Gunn also confirmed that the events of the "Holiday Special" will take place between Thor: Love and Thunder and the Guardians of the Galaxy threequel.
We don't know much about the plot of this small screen spinoff, but it won't be feature-length.
Chances are it will be a tongue in cheek holiday adventure and not an essential part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline, but we're sure Gunn will drop at least a few Vol. 3 hints.
"Before Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot hit the big screen with the next Guardians of the Galaxy film in 2023, watch the Guardians engage in some spirited shenanigans in an all-new original special, created for Disney+, during the 2022 holiday season," reads a brief synopsis released last year.
