36 years after he haunted the Maitland's dream home, Betelgeuse (yes, that's how his name is actually spelled)  will return to our screens next September.

We've been hearing about a possible sequel to Tim Burton's classic horror comedy for many years, and Warner Bros. recently confirmed that Beetlejuice 2 had been given the greenlight. Now, the movie has set a Sep. 6, 2024 release date.

According to Deadline, Burton is officially on board to helm, with Michael Keaton set to return as the titular Bio-Exorcist, and Winona Ryder back to foil his supernatural schemes as Lydia Deetz. Scream and Wednesday star Jenna Ortega will play Lydia's daughter, while Justin Theroux has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

The original also starred Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as Adam and Barbara Maitland, but they are not expected to reprise their roles.

Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are currently working on the script.

While some will no doubt be overjoyed at the prospect of the whole gang getting back together for another Bettlejuice movie, some feel too much time has passed and they should let this particular Ghost with the Most rest in peace.

I still haven't seen Jenna Ortega in anything (Scream and Wednesday don't really hold much interest to me), but she seems to be a the fancast for a lot of folks, so I'm happy for them.
If this film includes some songs/homage to the musical, I am all in on this movie. That show seems like a blast and I'm still bummed that the Pandemic sort of ruined the run.

Can't wait to not see what the modern Hollyweird alphabet brigade do this hilarious classic.

@DocSpock -
The movie will be all about how special and brilliant Lydia is and Beetlejuice will be a bumbling ineffective idiot. Not that he WASN'T somewhat bumbling in the original.

The big difference here will be that Beetlejuice will not attempt to marry a 13 year old girl and he will identify as a sandworm.

Good outside the box thinking. You must be a frickin' genius!

? Why would you advocate for homophobic bigotry? You are very strange.

@DocSpock - I was clearly being facetious. Insulting a minority group of people is pretty shitty.

@Variant -

I hear ya.

One thing people refuse to understand is the difference insulting people and disagreeing with them.

If you disagree with what someone else thinks. That is being human and having an opinion.

Unfortunately, if you disagree with one of the alphabet mob, they say you are a hating transphobic inhuman monster who advocates violence against them and wants them dead.

that is insane, but that's how it is.

@DocSpock - I think there's a little disconnect here. You're using blanket statements. You seem to take what is shown on social media and highlighted in the news as some ubiquitous thing. It's not. So again, grouping them altogether and calling them the alphabet mob isn't quite right. Of course some are playing the defensive and are obnoxiously vocal about it. But it's not everyone in that group.

So Jenna Ortega is going to be the new Aubrey Plaza and new Winona Ryder in everything?

Wednesday was ok. Not great. Her performance was good, but she is really playing a specific type of character these days isn’t she?

That clip from the awards show of her and Aubrey Plaza had to be the most unfunny cringe I’ve ever seen. Ortega’s schtick is going to get old real fast.

@mountainman - Wednesday was good for what it was supposed to be. I was not at all the target audience so I naturally checked out quickly. BUT...from what I did see, Ortega's performance as the character was undeniably brilliant. She's a true talent.

@Reginator - That misses the point. It performed incredibly in the box office and had stellar reviews. The point being here is, interval between sequels does not dictate quality.

You've set an arbitrary standard that makes no sense.

Nice to see Theroux in a big project like this, but modern-day Burton feels like a husk of the one who made the original

"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" was right there for a sequel title. And if this film performs well, the third movie title is a piece of cake.

Of course she is because now they are going to basically soft reboot Beetlejuice with Lydia having a Goth daughter like she was and Lydia having to deal with a daughter that was like her.

And her daughter will either a) Find the handbook for the recently deceased and learn how to conjure Beetlejuice.

Then Beetlejuice will basically try to get revenge by getting hold of Lydia's daughter.

Cue Barbara and Adam Maitland (Digitally de-aged Gene Davis and Adam Baldwin) or deepfakes.
Then the studios can have them both sign away the rights to their voices so they and their estates are paid handsomely for the rest of their lives and they can keep making Beetlejuice movies and streaming shows featuring those characters.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.
