Underworld Awakening has stormed straight to the top of the US box office, scaring up a decent enough $9.4 million on its first day of release. The latest movie in the franchise is currently expected to finish the weekend with over $23 million which isn't quite enough to beat
Underworld: Evolution's $26.9 million back in 2006. Considering it has a budget of $70 million and opened with higher ticket prices due to being in 3D, this isn't perhaps as good as it sounds. Meanwhile, George Lucas'
Red Tails followed up in second place with $6 million on Friday. It's expected to bring in $17 million this weekend but still has no release date for international territories.
