Filming is currently underway on the Child's Play remake in Vancouver, and we have our first look at the revamped Chucky doll.

This updated take on the murderous little shit looks quite similar to the original, but he's not expected to have the same backstory. In the '80s movie the doll was possessed by the spirit of a serial killer (Brad Dourif), but director Lars Klevberg is remaining tight-lipped about this Chucky's origin. “Our Chucky will be our Chucky and he will be presented when the movie comes out,” he teased.

We also have some more casting news. Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out, American Gothic) will star as little Andy, whose mother Karen (Aubrey Plaza) gives him the doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature. Atlanta actor Brian Tyree Henry will play Mike, the detective who gets involved when Chucky begins his killing spree.

Chucky doesn't really need a reboot. I mean, you could just go crazy with the existing character.

@Ragnarocknroll - they already are. Cult of chucky was really weird.

@Ragnarocknroll - Well they're still making Chucky movies set in the original continuity with a lot of the original cast. They're getting ready to start filming a Child's Play tv series as well. It seems like a pretty stupid idea to do a remake right now while the original series is still going strong though.

@CaptainKill - with Halloween getting a rebooted part 2 and terminator getting a rebooted part 3. Studios want in on the nostalgia train.

@SonOfAGif - Halloween and Terminator is not getting a reboot but a continuation of the original movies

@SonOfAGif - Yep, that's for sure.

@zeon00 - They are reboots. They are eliminating the sequels and rebooting a specific entry in the franchise.

The new Terminator eliminates the original Terminator 3, Salvation, and Genisys.

The new Halloween eliminates part 2 and up. With this new Halloween film being the new true part 2.

@SonOfAGif - but it still a continuation from terminator 2 and Halloween 1 and Genisys was a reboot an alternative timeline and salvation was a reboot continuation and prequel the same time

I like the cast though. They seem different enough to distinct themselves from their original counterparts while still keeping in what made the original performances enjoyable to begin with (especially Brian Tyree Henry).
