Some huge news for Dead By Daylight fans here, as a feature adaptation of Behaviour Interactive's best-selling survival horror video game is in the works.

The movie is being developed by Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, with the goal of creating a "scary cinematic adaptation" of the multiplayer fright-fest.

No director or writer are attached at the moment, but the search is currently on to put the creative team together.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Jason Blum and James Wan, two giants of the horror film industry, to further expand the ‘Dead by Daylight’ universe,” said Stephen Mulrooney, executive vice president at Behaviour Interactive. “At Behaviour, our motto is to create unique moments, together, forever. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are the ideal partners to craft ‘Dead by Daylight’s’ killer entrance onto the big screen.”

Wan added: “In ‘Dead by Daylight’ the Behaviour team has created a love letter to the world of horror, building an incredible environment teeming with atmosphere and terrifying villains — perfect for a scary cinematic adaptation. We’re big fans of the game at Atomic Monster, and are thrilled to be teaming up with Blumhouse to bring this frighteningly visceral world to the big screen.” “We know there are so many fans of ‘Dead by Daylight’ out there and think it’s imperative we find someone who appreciates and loves the world as much as we do, to help us bring the game to the big screen."

Since its launch in 2016, Dead by Daylight has reached over 50 million players globally, with two million stepping into "The Fog" every day.

In the game, The Entity, a supernatural being hailing from the ancient Bloodweb, is awakened from its slumber and summoned by actions of great violence and malice. The Killers are pulled out of reality by the Entity and convinced or forced to do its bidding. In order to maintain its existence, the Entity requires sacrifices and demands that they hunt and kill the Survivors so it can feed off their hope and steal a piece of their souls upon death.

I hope the movie doesn't lose the essence of the video game and becomes a typical Slasher. Perhaps a group of slasher fan friends travel to the real Camp Crystal Lake to participate in a role-playing game and there, in the inauspicious forest, the murders are very real.

I love the game but turning it into a movie is going to be a tall order. Kinda felt an anthology series about the origins of the original killers would be best served for the game.

If it's a movie I hope it's going to be akin to Cabin in the Woods, only with the Entity replacing the control center and having a more supernatural tone.

It's the one game I've put over 2k hours into...

The fact this game has very little narrative could be a good thing in that it gives them room to craft a story for the movie, or it could be a bad thing for the very same reason.

I’ve played the game a bit and I have a lot of trouble imaging how to adapt this into a movie.

Pretty curious about this. It could go so well or so poorly.

There's so much to pull from, and a lot of wiggle room to make a story out of this, BUUUUUUUT video game movies typically suck ass, and having a lot of wiggle room means Hollywood could potentially Hollywood this.

I feel like this would be best suited to a Shudder original series, with a little bit of a bigger budget than normal. Not massive or anything, but just a bit bigger than they usually opt for.

Maybe if they do it like the NetherRealm in Mortal Kombat or the Predator Planet?

Use a Beyonder/Raiden type character who drops humans & Monster Killers into this battlefield for their own amusement to see who comes out on top?

How would this even work?

@RitoRevolto - teenagers are kidnapped by a malicious god that lives off their torment as they're slaughtered by various killers that made a deal with said entity.

@Blergh - No, that part I know. I guess what I'm really curious about is if the various killers will only be the original characters made for the game and exclude the more well-known killers (i.e. Michael, Freddy, etc)?

@TheLobster -

I'm sure wann will get some WB owned characters since he has a good relationship. Blum can hopefully get Myers to make an appearance and some of his characters to make a Cameo 🤝
