The final trailer for Mike Flanagan's big-screen take on Stephen King's Doctor Sleep is now online, and it should give those that haven't read the novel a much better idea of what to expect from the plot.

The film will actually serve as a sequel to both King's The Shining and Stanley Kubrick's terrifying adaptation, and that's evident from this new footage as an older Dan Torrance (Ewan McGregor) returns to the Overlook Hotel - which burned to the ground at the end of the book.

We also get to see more of Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson) and her followers, The True Knot: a group of nomadic psychics who maintain their life-force by feeding off the "steam" of children who shine.

In addition, various sites shared write-ups of their 2018 set visits over the weekend, and we've included some of the more intriguing details below along with some new official images.

Have a look through them by clicking on the "view list" button, and let us know if you're looking forward to Doctor Sleep in the comments.

Mike Flanagan With Stars Ewan McGregor And Kyliegh Curran

These behind-the-scenes stills from Nerdist feature Mike Flanagan directing Ewan McGregor and his costar Kyliegh Curran, who plays Abra - a young girl with a physic connection to Dan Torrance.

Curran,14, said she read The Shining in order to better understand Dan, and that her favorite part of working on the movie was sharing scenes with McGregor. “Abra is, in many ways, stronger than Dan,” McGregor said. Curran added, “She’s a tough cookie.”

Doctor Sleep: Ewan McGregor

Those infamous, sinister letters will return to torment the older Dan Torrance in Doctor Sleep, along with the horrors of room 217.

Doctor Sleep – exclusive

Of course, the Overlook Hotel burned to the ground in King's novel, but the Doctor Sleep movie will actually serve as a sequel to both the book and Stanley Kubrick's adaptation.

Here, we see the return of Dick Hallorann (now played by Carl Lumbly) who was killed by Jack Nicholson's character in the film, but survived and went on to mentor Dan in the original story.

Rose The Hat

The villain of the piece will be played by Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Dune).

Rose The Hat is a terrifying, ruthless creature who feeds on the "steam" (psychic energy) of children with the Shining. Of course, this leads her to Abra, and Dan must fight to protect his young protege.

Mike Flanagan's very good, and I like how this doesn't just feel like a retread of Jack's story but with his son (even with the Overlook being back). Haven't read the book, but you could do some interesting stuff there with Danny's childhood trauma.
Don't know why it looks so teal considering how vibrant The Shining looked though

Kubrick does not own the Shining. He was a director hired by a studio to make an adaptation of an existing book. King wrote a good sequel wich is his right and a studio hired another director to make an adaptation. No sacred cows were harmed trust me.

@Superheromoviefan - He works as a nurse and uses his ability to comfort and help elderly patients as they pass away, thus having earned the nick name "Doctor Sleep".

@Shasvre - thats nice for work, but the shinning seems to be able to do a lot more. so i was thinking he would have master it by now. for example in the trailer there people who do crazy shit so would he also be able to do that?
