I found out about this movie while voting for Spike TV’s Scream Awards. It, along with Dead Snow, was nominated for several awards, so I figured I’d take a look.

This is a Swedish film that follows a young boy, Oskar, who is constantly being abused and bullied at school, causing him to become a bit of a loner. A young girl, Eli, moves in and immediately Oskar notices something different about her. That is, of course, she is a vampire. While she helps Oskar gain some self confidence and teaches him to stand up for himself, she allows herself to become a bit more human, in allowing herself to become close to those she usually shies away from...or feeds off of.

This is a very unique take on the vampire story; it follows some of the more traditional lore of vampire but adds a new feel to it. It is easily one of the best vampire films in recent history and one of my favorite films of the year.

Aside from the story, the film was done beautifully. The sound is amazing- you can hear every little nuance and whisper that is made, adding to the creepiness of the film. It is not overly gory, but it is not lacking in the blood department. It is dark, but it is still a very moving film.

Grade: A-

Yes! I want to see this. I like that you commented on the sound. That's cool, people dont normally say anything about the sound when it can be 90% of the experience. Dang it ecksman, I was the newest review and now I have two on top of me.

I saw it a few months ago. It is good, and I'm not a vampire movie fan. Highly recommended.
