"Mommy loves you to death."
A few days later than expected (we were told it'd be online before the new year), the first trailer for Evil Dead Rise will be released at some point tomorrow, and the legendary Bruce Campbell (via FearHQ.com) has taken to Twitter to share the creepy first footage.
Following Campbell's introduction, we see a child take a look through a peephole as she tells her mommy that she "doesn't look so good." We then get a glimpse of a grinning Deadite that had been her mother on the other side of the door.
Check out the teaser below, along with a new poster.
Though it's already been confirmed that Campbell will not reprise the role of Ash Williams, director Lee Cronin recently promised that Rise is still very much an Evil Dead movie, and there will be blood... lots, and lots of blood!
“It straps you onto a rocket that’s fueled by blood,” he told Empire. “You can either get off or you stay on ’til it explodes.”
“I had to hire an industrial kitchen to create the amount of blood we needed,” Cronin added. “When I was checking out, I had to warn the landlord, ‘You’re going to find bloody handprints all over the apartment – but they’re not real, honest!’”
Evil Dead Rise is set to hit theaters on April 21, 2023. The horror flick will ditch the usual forest setting and move the gory action to the city, as "two estranged sisters’ reunion is cut short when flesh-possessing demons thrust them into a battle for survival."
Sam Raimi's microbudget original is still considered one of the best horror movies of all time, with direct sequels Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness as well as recent TV show Ash vs. The Evil Dead upping the comedic elements. The well-received 2013 remake was a far more serious affair, but it's not known which direction Rise will head in from a tonal standpoint.
