We recently learned that Peacock gave a straight-to-series order to a Friday the 13th prequel titled Crystal Lake with Bryan Fuller and Victor Miller on board as writers and executive producers, but it seems we may also get to see Jason Vorhees swinging his signature machete on the big screen before too long.

According to Bloody Disgusting (via FearHQ.com), original Friday helmer Sean S. Cunningham is developing a reboot alongside writer Jeff Locker and director Jeremy Weiss.

The Friday the 13th rights are a bit of a tangled mess at the moment, but Locker believes they have found a way to sidestep any legal issues that may arise - and if not, they have a "plan B" for a direct sequel to the original (there are already plenty of sequels, of course, so we assume he means a Halloween 2018-style revival).

“Obviously, the prequel TV series has reignited interest about a new film, so we’re hoping the surrounding excitement will inspire both sides to come together and give us Jason on the big screen again for the first time in 14 years, but we also have a Plan B for a sequel to the original we think fans will absolutely love and should avoid any legal entanglements.”

Cunningham and co. are also working on a reboot of 1985 horror comedy House (there's even an early promo poster, which you can check out below) and an original project called The Night Driver.

“The House reboot is both an update and reimagining of the classic series, centering around the birth of a haunted house,” Locker explains. “Lots of great scares and howl-at-the-screen laughs, plus we’re bringing back a few of your favorite monsters from the original for some really fun but equally terrifying kills.”

It sounds like all of these projects are in the very early stages of development, but Friday fans are sure to be excited by the prospect of seeing Jason do his thing on the big screen again after so many years.
