This movie is outright garbage. Before i begin this short review of the film, i just want to mention all the negative things right off the bat. I'm not a fan of found footage horror films. Some can pull them off well (The Last Exorcism, Quarantine) and some can't (Cloverfield). That being said, that wasnt the majority of the issues i had with the film.
If you're unaware of what the urban legend is behind these board games, they're essentially a portal to the spirit world. You ask the board a question and if "someone" is there on the other side, they give you a response by moving the game piece to each letter. Sometimes you can come across a loved one, someone who's "friendly", or someone who will want to take over your soul and then you're REALLY screwed.
That's what the premise of this film is, but with this film they come across the spirit of a decesed girl who apparently drowned long ago. Sounds like the premise for a decent movie, right? WRONG! Instead of seeing the actual spirits throughout the film, we deal with personal drama, such as Calvin cheating on his girlfriend and his best friend knowing about it. Like how in the world would a DEAD GIRL know this? Why on earth would a ghost want to reveal everyone's dirty laundry?
The guy that's seen to be filming everything is insulted at every turn. He's invited over to the first game night only to be bashed and constantly asked "why are you here" every single time. Why on earth would you continue to keep going over someone's house if all they're going to do is insult you to your face? While going over all the personal drama bullsh*t that's going down, 2 of the friends forget to say "goodbye" to the board and that's when it all really hits the fan.
People start dying off one by one but you never really see the spirit in action, it's only implied that a ghost is in the room when these deaths happen. If you're going to make a movie based on spirits, SHOW THEM! Show us what kind of ghost you managed to conjure up instead of just teasing us.Towards the end of the movie they finally show the girl who they contacted with the board. It was a mother who ended up drowning her child because her boyfriend (or husband, im not quite sure) broke up with her over the phone. Then the mother kills the little girl's special needs friend (whose an adult and comes over looking for her).
Overall, this movie gets a 2 out of 5 for me. Terrible acting, terrible special effects and overall a BAD movie. If you're into straight-to-DVD horror movies that may be good OR bad, then i say go for it. Otherwise, this would be a one time watch with friends.
