Today’s short review is about a masterpiece…sort of…called The Prodigy. If you’re familiar with the plot, it kinda resembles The Omen in that a family believes their child is the AntiChrist. But this isn’t the Omen, no no no….this child has a soul that’s trying to overtake his own.
Pros: The writing. Whoever thought it was a good idea for a child to tell his therapist that he is going to tell the police that he was drugged and that the doctor’s penis was going to be in his mouth is incredibly disturbing. The nightmares that leave him speaking in a foreign language, which in english translated into calling his mother a whore, is well done. The reason behind this is that, somehow, a serial killer’s soul has managed to find it’s way into Miles’ and it wants to claim him as it’s own. It’s a callback to Child’s Play in that a serial killer wants to take over the soul of a little boy.
Cons: The movie resembles The Omen and another film such as Orphan a little too much. The scenes with the serial killer’s soul taking over the child and having him speaking fluent languages was a good idea, but they didn’t take advantage of him killing a lot of people.
Overall, I’d give it a watch if I were with a group of friends, but I wouldn’t watch it again.
