Another trailer for you guys to take a look at, this time from Warner Bros. and Aquaman director James Wan.

Malignant focuses on a young woman named Madison who is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are, in fact, terrifying realities. The trailer suggests that some kind of invisible presence (a sinister imaginary friend?) is carrying out these killings, but we're no doubt in for more than a few "quite quiet LOUD" jump scares before the big revelation.

Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders, The Mummy), stars alongside Maddie Hasson (Mr. Mercedes), George Young (Containment), Michole Briana White (Black Mafia Family, Dead to Me), Jacqueline McKenzie (Palm Beach, Reckoning), Jake Abel (Supernatural) and Ingrid Bisu (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun).

Wan directs from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (M3GAN, The Nun 2), and also worked on the story Ingrid Bisu. The film was produced by Wan and Michael Clear, with Eric McLeod, Judson Scott, Bisu, Peter Luo, Cheng Yang, Mandy Yu and Lei Han serving as executive producers.

Malignant will be released nationwide on 8th September, 2021.

After watching this trailer, am I the only one who thinks that James Wan is the perfect man to resurrect Freddy Krueger?

@Repian - Never thought of that! Genius idea

I thought it was going to be more giallo inspired then supernatural, but it still looks interesting.

@CurlyBill - Giallo movies hit.

People talk about the horror but I love the crime and heist giallo films too.

@BlackBeltJones @CurlyBill - I love that we're getting supernatural/Giallo-inspired horror movies from James Wan AND Edgar Wright this year. The horror gods spoil us!

@MUTO123 - it’s such a rich genre that I wanna see more of in Hollywood

@BlackBeltJones - Hollywood doesn't tend to understand foreign genres too well. They either zero in on one marketable aspect and blow it up to infinity, missing the subtleties, or they turn the genre into an aesthetic skin.
Brian DePalma made some good giallo-feeling films, but those more likely came from a common influence by Hitchcock, not being Mario Bava fan.
That being said, giallo are experiencing a moment I think. So it's only logical that Hollywood starts dipping their toes in it more regularly.

I mean……….She IS the killer right? Like a split personality that manifests itself while she sleeps or something along those lines…

I'll watch it because I love me some Wallis from Peaky Blinders. Hasson isn't too shabby herself but this looks, like many said, predictable. Hopefully they can throw us a curve ball.

I question how many giallo those saying this looks like one have actually seen.
It looks like someone watched a YouTube video about giallo cliches and copy-pasted it on to a generic jumpscare CGI mainstream horror film.

@PapaSpank54 - I feel like the colors could be fooling. Like it’s all very aesthetic but most giallo is the protagonist being the focus of the murderer’s ire, Freudian plots and dollops of kink and nudity. Those subtleties.
