MATILDA Star Alisha Weir To Play "Dracula's Daughter" In SCREAM VI Directors' Universal Monster Movie

We recently learned that Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aka Radio Silence, are set to helm a mysterious "monster movie" for Universal Pictures, and the project has now added another key cast member.

Scream's Melissa Barerra has already signed-on to re-team with the duo on the untitled film, and THR (via FearHQ.com) is reporting that Matilda the Musical breakout Alisha Weir will join her.

Plot details are still under wraps, but it sounds like this could be a revamped (no pun) take on an unused script for a movie called Dracula's Daughter, which focused on a group of kidnappers who abduct a band of young people, one of whom ends up being the titular character.

Weir is set to play the blood-sucking youngster, while Barerra will play one of her kidnappers. The script was written by Stephen Sheilds, with revisions by Guy Busick.

While the studio declined to confirm what the movie's story will entail, a rep did state that the feature will be "in the vein of recent Universal films such as Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man and the Nicolas Cage starrer Renfield in that it will be a unique take on legendary monster lore and will represent a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate these classic characters.”

Weir, an up-and-coming Irish actress who beat stiff competition to land the lead in Matilda, was recently nominated for an IFTA award for Best Lead Actress, and will next be seen in Wicked Little Letters alongside Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley.

Another Dracula movie? What is going on?!

@ObserverIO - Dracula’s Daughter is actually one of the Universal Classic Monsters. Since the studio is seeing their vampire movies are well-received it makes sense why it’s being developed before the other reboots. Still hoping they make Creature from the Black Lagoon, because a modern adaptation could be horrifying

@ImBatman4realz - well received? Renfield made next to nothing at the BO and was panned by critics

@Cap1 - so… you actually listen to film critics? No wonder your opinions wreak of self-grandiosity 😂 LMFAO

@ImBatman4realz - circling back to a comment made 10 days ago? U seem a bit obsessed dude, weird i’ve had that effect. This isn’t ‘listening to critics’, this is someone saying a movie was well received, which it objectively wasn’t, and me explaining why that’s objectively not the case. Hope u don’t dream about me x

@Superheromoviefan - it’s standalone. They tried the interconnected thing and it didn’t work, so now each installment is standalone.

@ImBatman4realz - Johnny Depp would have been a horrible Invisible Man.

@Lokiwasright - they made a new Matilda on Netflix. This time it's based off the Broadway musical instead of directly off the book.

I actually called it… I said it was going to be either: Bride or Frankenstein, or Dracula’s Daughter. Glad they aren’t doing Bride until we have a proper reboot of the Universal Classic Monsters Frankenstein.

Should be very entertaining!

This sounds very very similar to Stephen Kings short story "Popsy" like almost plagiarized similar. I'm a big fan of the directors, but that is weird.
