PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: NEXT OF KIN Trailer Takes The Demonic Dealings To Amish Country

Paramount has debuted the first trailer for its upcoming Paranormal Activity revival, and this time we're headed deep into the woods for more demonic dealings in Amish Country. Check it out...

The original aside, the Paranormal Activity movies have never been a big hit with critics, but that hasn't stopped these relatively low budget found-footage horror flicks raking in the cash at the box office. With that in mind, it's hardly surprising that Paramount has decided to resurrect the franchise, and the first trailer for the seventh installment, Next of Kin, is now online.

The premise remains pretty much the same, but the location is very different, as documentary filmmaker Margot (Emily Bader) "heads to a secluded Amish community in the hopes of meeting and learning about her long-lost mother and extended family. Following a string of strange occurrences and discoveries, she soon realizes this community that welcomed them into their home might be hiding something sinister."

They turn out to be a demon-worshipping cult, obvs.

To be fair, this is an effective enough trailer and there's some nice, atmospheric cinematography - something the previous entries largely eschewed in favor of night-vision jump-scares - on display. Check it out below along with a poster, and let us know what you think.

Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is directed by William Eubank from a script by Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky), who wrote Paranormal Activity 2 through Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. Jason Blum and Oren Peli will produce. The cast also includes Roland Buck III (Better Call Saul), Dan Lippert (Superstore), and Henry Ayers-Brown (The Blacklist).

The movie will debut exclusively on Paramount+ on October 29.

@ThorArms - not saying I like the trailer or anything, but that's a low bar if that's what you think was taken from the conjuring. Like, it's such a normal thing to say that I wouldn't be surprised at all if no one in the production of this film knew that exact line was in the conjuring.

@Origame - it's not just in the Conjuring. It's a recurring line in all the Annabelle films and was featured in the trailers.

That being said, could just be a nod, or nothing at all. Was just pointing it out considering this film looks the opposite of original.

Never been a fan of the Paranormal Axtivity after the first one the series has just felt like a cash grab. I think they've given a bad name to found footage horor in general. If your looking for good found footage watch Grave encounters or As above, so below.

Wait, if it's Amish country then what are they going to do during the 66% of the movie where they're filming nothing going on? Put Ezekiel on a stool and have him sway while an hourglass shows sand rapidly flow?

I used to live close to an Amish community and learned quickly that the Amish party hard. They drank more and smoked more than my friends and I. They also grew some of the best weed I’ve ever smoked. 🌬💨👍

@AnthonyVonGeek - they also run a large amount of puppy mills and sexual abuse is a big problem especially inside their own bloodline. But yes, good weed.
