The original aside, the Paranormal Activity movies have never been a big hit with critics, but that hasn't stopped these relatively low budget found-footage horror flicks raking in the cash at the box office. With that in mind, it's hardly surprising that Paramount has decided to resurrect the franchise, and the first trailer for the seventh installment, Next of Kin, is now online.
The premise remains pretty much the same, but the location is very different, as documentary filmmaker Margot (Emily Bader) "heads to a secluded Amish community in the hopes of meeting and learning about her long-lost mother and extended family. Following a string of strange occurrences and discoveries, she soon realizes this community that welcomed them into their home might be hiding something sinister."
They turn out to be a demon-worshipping cult, obvs.
To be fair, this is an effective enough trailer and there's some nice, atmospheric cinematography - something the previous entries largely eschewed in favor of night-vision jump-scares - on display. Check it out below along with a poster, and let us know what you think.
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is directed by William Eubank from a script by Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky), who wrote Paranormal Activity 2 through Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. Jason Blum and Oren Peli will produce. The cast also includes Roland Buck III (Better Call Saul), Dan Lippert (Superstore), and Henry Ayers-Brown (The Blacklist).
The movie will debut exclusively on Paramount+ on October 29.
