After Benny (Ty Olsson) gets brutally beat up by some vampires, he calls Dean (Jensen Ackles) for help. Dean abruptly packs up and tells a confused Sam (Jared Padalecki) that he’s taking a “personal day.” Benny confesses that he’s going after his Maker (guest star Patrick Stafford) so Dean offers to help, flashing back on the many times Benny helped him and Castiel (Misha Collins) in Purgatory. Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) uses his solo time to reflect on the life he left behind with Amelia (guest star Liane Balaban). However, when things go bad for Dean and Benny, Dean calls Sam for help, which makes everything very complicated. Guy Bee directed the episode written by Ben Edlund.

Tonight's episode was pretty good. Interesting idea, but not enough Sam and Dean. Part of the reason my wife and I tune in so loyally is the witty banter between the two of them. I felt a bit let down that there wasn't much of them tonight.

Last night's episode was the best Supernatural episode in a long while. This season is turning out great so far.

Last night's episode is crap! They used that gimmick once way back in season 03 already. Not to mention that it absolutely has nothing to do with the main plot. First two episodes were promising and now we are back to the old formula again (using gimmicks to shoot some filler episodes and not telling any stories that can contribute to the main plot unless it absolutely has to---i.g. midseason, close to finale, etc.)conclusion: crap!

@AnditsOn1

What type of TV series does't have filler episodes and when has any show built it's entire mythology with every weekly installment? Never.

And, by the way, this is the first lost-footeage episode of the entire series and Werewolves haven't been used since season two so know what you're talking about and know the difference between a gimmick and a plot.

I like the "filler" episodes. They were known as "Monster of the Week" episodes for tht X-Files. And the major plot episodes were known as "mythos" episodes. Supernatural seems to take a 3 MOTW, 1 Mythos approach. I enjoy that. The best episodes were early in the first two seasons when they were just hunting, wise-cracking, and killing creepy critters. The "main plot" becomes overdone and boring if it isn't mixed up. Of course, as always, your mileage may vary.
