Fans of Stephen King's series of The Dark Tower novels have been anxiously awaiting the first official trailer for the upcoming big-screen adaptation, and now Sony Philippines has announced that it's set to be released on Wednesday.

Instead of the usual trailer tease, the studio has released three motion posters featuring Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, Matthew McConaughey as The Man in Black, and Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers.

Check 'em out below, and be sure to keep an eye on CBM tomorrow. We'll update if we get a better idea of what time the trailer is scheduled to drop.

The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black, determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.

The Dark Tower is set to be released in the U.S. on August 4, followed by the UK on August 18.

I find it hard to like Elba after his role on the Office. He just played an asshole too well and I only see him as that guy ever since.

@connorblaze - Watch Luther on Netflix. May change your mind.

This should have been a high-profile, premium cable bases mini-series. Even if the movie is a sequel to the books, they can't fully finish the story, if this movie tanks. At least as a mini-series, it would have been done to completion. The dense novels is tough to get across in one movie, let alone as a possible sequel to those stories.

@JoeInTheBox - Maybe there will be a Game of Thrones-style Dark Tower series in a few years, if this movie fails. That's what I hope. And I want the brilliant Tobe Hooper's adaptation of Salem's Lot to be canon in this Universe.

@JoeInTheBox - It will ruin the story.

I understand this takes place after the novels. But that isn't excuse enough to be able to do whatever they want. It doesn't explain any of the changes.

Every time Roland reached the tower it put him back at the beginning to repeat his quest, with very minor changes from the last time. All of these differences donxt make sense, even with the Horn of Eld. Why did his race change? Why is his quest clearly so different than the novels?

It doesn't make sense.

WTF? They release the first trailer 3 month before movie opening, that's too late.

I think they have the same marketing team like the dredd producers :-D

@IcemanX - thats because this bastardization of the source material is going to suck shit.

@scapegoatjones - have't read the books, how is it a bastardization?

@noahthebest - because its a gut-less cop-out, and the fact that they went this route means we'll never see the real deal.

@scapegoatjones - details?

scapegoatjones - 5/3/2017, 7:28 AM
@noahthebest - so the TL:DR version is:

Sony and SK wanted to make the full arc, a trilogy of movies and a netflix-type series presumably for the Wizard & Glass / Keyhole sub-storyline. but eventually they gave up on it, pseudo-pissing their pants in one way or another, saying that it couldnt be done. well guess what it can.

so they came up with this 'last time around but with the horn' sequel version complete with poor casting so they could get away with merely testing the waters because they are a bag of hatchet wounds about the whole thing.

basically, they shouldve had some backbone and follow thru, because now they'll never get around to making the real deal.

@scapegoatjones - well to be optimistic, if this does good and makes some money they might go through with making the original vision.

Unfortunately the release is right in between getting swarmed with tons of superhero films from early summer, and waiting for the holiday film season.
