Quoth the Raven, Nevermore.

A first look at Mike Flanagan's (Midnight Mass, Doctor Sleep, Gerald's Game) latest Netflix horror series, The Fall of the House of Usher, has been released (via FearHQ.com) courtesy of a series of stills, a poster, and a brief teaser promo.

It's been confirmed that the show won't actually serve as a direct adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's 1839 short story, as it will also take inspiration from several of the legendary writer's other works - including The Raven, if this footage is any indication.

Even so, the basic premise seems to be pretty much the same... with some modern flourishes, of course.

"Ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth," reads the official synopsis.

Check out the poster, promo stills and teaser below, and let us know what you think.

I know this is classic Edgar Allen Poe, but I don't know anything about the story.

On another topic...no one is talking about one of my most anticipated horror films - Last Voyage of the Demeter. There was a time not that long ago that vampires were the sh^t. Now Demeter and the mysteriously missing Salem's Lot film are all but ignored.

@Forthas - Saw it last night! I really liked it. I too am wondering what the hell is going on with Salems Lot

@narrow290 - That is good to hear! It has a 38% on the Rotten Tomato-meter! Hopefully that is because it is a niche horror film. Yeah Salem's Lot should be a priority. I guess Vampires are now out of style.

@Forthas - looking forward to demeter...although the reviews on variety and hollywood reporter were less than glowing...they did say something about it having a gothic feel...which is part of why i loved "bram stokers dracula" and "shadow of the vampire"

@soupysales - I think that the premise of the film is clever as it takes a part of Bram Stokers book and makes an interesting film out of it...kind of like "Alien" at sea!

@GhostDog - That had potential but was a pretty big swing and miss for me. Have mostly loved all of his work up to it. Especially Midnight Mass which was fantastic.

It's good to see Mark Hamill out doing more live action roles these days.

Fun fact: I've been a HUGE Poe fan since I was in middle school (I believe that "The Telltale Heart" was my first exposure) and when I was a sophomore I was in a class where we were asked to do a dramatic reading of our choice, so I memorized "The Raven" and did a truly "dramatic" recitation of it. I can still rattle it off word for word today (" Once upon a midnight dreary while I pondered, weak, and weary, over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore..."), which is impressive considering how much I partied in college. One of the Halloweens I'll do the whole thing for my little kids. At least when they are old enough to not end up with permanent PTSD from the experience.
