THE NUN II: Valak Is Back In The Habit (Of Scaring People S*itless) In First Trailer

New Line Cinema (via FearHQ.com) has released the first trailer for The Nun II, the next chapter in the story of the demonic nun known as Valak, which ended up becoming the highest -grossing entry in The Conjuring franchise.

1956, France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun.

The story picks up four years after the events of the first film, with Irene attempting to live an anonymous life in a convent in Italy. Maurice, meanwhile, is living in France, where he works as a handyman at a boarding school.

The first movie brought a pretty basic (but no less effective) brand of signposted jump-scares to the table, and the sequel appears to be following suit.

Check out the age-restricted (it's pretty tame, to be honest) trailer below along with a new poster, and let us know what you think.

Taissa Farmiga (The Nun, The Gilded Age) returns as Sister Irene, joined by Jonas Bloquet (Tirailleurs, The Nun), Storm Reid (The Last of Us, The Suicide Squad), Anna Popplewell (Fairytale, The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy) and Bonnie Aarons (reprising her role from the first movie), surrounded by an ensemble cast of international talent.

Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) directs, from a screenplay by Ian Goldberg & Richard Naing (Eli, The Autopsy of Jane Doe) and Akela Cooper (M3GAN, Malignant), with a story by Cooper, based on characters created by James Wan & Gary Dauberman.

Oh, that head grab got me good. Valik scared the ever loving s#it out of me in Conjuring 2. Religious horror specifically hits a nerve with me that will put some loaves in my pants.

pretty stoked for this. The first one had it's issues, to be sure, but I REALLY dug the old world, gothic feel to it. Chiches aside, I really enjoyed it. And what an iconic villain.

@Demigods - The gothic vibe is I think what did it for me as well. Not enough gothic or cosmic horror is getting released today imo.

Still haven't seen the first one, I heard it was a short movie, less than an hour and a half.
