"You won't be hungry much longer."

Yellowjackets fans have been (im)patiently waiting for an update on the show's second season, and Showtime has finally announced that the mysterious, horror-tinged drama series will return to our screens on March 24, 2023.

The network has also debuted a first look at season 2 via a still featuring the (surviving) islanders, and a cryptic teaser promo.

In addition, we have some exciting casting news. Elijah Wood has joined the ensemble as a character named Walter, “whose arc will intertwine with Misty (Christina Ricci) in significant ways.” Plus, adult Lottie - who we now know survives the events of the island - will be played by Simone Kessell.

They join the previously cast Lauren Ambrose as a grown-up take on Van, and returning stars Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, and Tawney Cypress as the present-day versions of the team members who made it home.

Season 1 could get pretty grim and gruesome at times, but it sounds like season 2 is going to up the ante.

"There’s scenes in Season 2 that are graphic, to say the least, and I remember just doing it, and [the cast] all sat and looked at each other, and we were like ‘What the f*** are we doing," young Shauna actress Sophie Nélisse tells Variety. "Like, literally, what the f*** are we doing.' You’ll look at it, and you’ll understand, but I don’t think you’ve ever seen such a scene in TV before.

If you haven't been following Yellowjackets, we highly recommend adding it to your must-watch list. The show has been referred to as a mash-up of Lost and Lord of the Flies, and while those comparisons are valid, it's very much its own, compelling, grim, hilarious, messed-up thing.

Playing out in two timelines, the story focuses on a school soccer team (the Yellowjackets of the title) who are forced to eke out an existence on a remote island when their plane crashes in 1996. We also follow the four main survivors in the present as they struggle with the lengths they had to go to in order to stay alive over two decades earlier.

Oh, and there's some kind of dark supernatural force at play on the island... or is there?

This show was really well done. Not gonna lie I was pretty hooked. I will say though the plot doesn't seem like it could last for that many more seasons, which might be a good thing.

Excited to see what they do some season 2 none the less.
