Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil reboot isn’t even in theaters yet, but the director has revealed that he's already cautiously and quietly mulling over where a potential sequel could go.
At a recent Los Angeles event featuring a sneak peek at the film's first 30 minutes, Cregger told The Playlist that while he has plenty of sequel ideas floating around in his brain, he isn't getting ahead of himself just yet.
"I can’t help thinking about other places this story could go," he admitted. "I’ve got ideas, but this movie hasn’t even come out yet. Let’s see what happens."
Also during a post-screening Q&A, the Weapons filmmaker revealed that while his video game adaptation doesn't adapt one specific game from the Capcom franchise, it heavily leans on the vibes and style of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard; even tweaking the movie's pacing to echo actual in-game mechanics.
"You will know how many bullets are in his gun. You will care when he misses a shot," he told the audience. Creeger also teased that there's another mechanic from the games present in the film, but he wants to keep it a secret until the movie is officially released.
