Three Upcoming 2023 MCU TV Shows Reportedly Hit By Huge Delays; New Details On NOVA, VISION QUEST, And More

We have news on what's happening with Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Echo, and What If...?, along with some big rumours about upcoming movies and TV shows such as Nova, Vision Quest, and even a Wong TV series!

While Reddit is rarely a reliable source of information, the r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers subreddit tends to be a great place to find leaks and rumours that, more often than not, prove to be correct. The page's moderators often share intel from sources who have contacted them, and that means we have lots of big rumours to share with you today.

How reliable these claims are remains to be seen, and we'd advise taking everything you read here with a pinch of salt. There's a lot that makes sense, though we do have to start off with a rather disappointing update.

Apparently, Echo is now set to be released in early 2024 rather than this summer as originally planned, while Agatha: Coven of Chaos has slipped surprisingly far down the release calendar. Originally expected either late 2023 or early 2024, the rumoured plan now is for it to follow Daredevil: Born Again, likely in 2025.

This lends some weight to those recent rumours about Marvel Studios returning to a quality-over-quantity approach to storytelling, but it's a little surprising to hear What If...? season 2 is also going to premiere in 2024. We'll see.

Other tidbits include supposed plans for Vision Quest to introduce Viv, The Vision's daughter, in order to further set the stage for a future Young Avengers project. Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight's respective second seasons are both said to be coming before Avengers: Secret Wars is released.

Wong, meanwhile, may be getting his own Strange Academy-inspired TV series co-starring Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez.

Nova is still set to be a movie rather than a TV series of Special Presentation, with the story acting as a "passing of the torch" (we're guessing rumours Richard Rider will be shown training Sam Alexander are correct). Midnight Sons is similarly expected to be a big screen venture, though no additional details have been revealed beyond that.

Finally, Captain America: New World Order will reportedly see the return of the Department of Damage Control, while The Serpent Society is also being lined up for a future project.

We'll see what happens, but there's plenty here to get excited about if accurate.

I don't mind it that those shows are being delayed. Three live-action shows and one animated show each year is more than enough.

Wouldn't mind it if the slate looked like this:

2023: Secret Invasion, Loki S2, Zombies, Ironheart
2024: Echo, Daredevil, What If... S2
2025: Agatha, Wonder Man, Spider-Man Freshmen Year, Vision Quest
2026: Nova, Strange/Avengers Academy, What If... S3

A Strange Academy show with Wong sounds fun, but I actually would rather see that be an Avengers Academy show with Wong instead. Although maybe both could exist, with America's appearance in Strange Academy leading into Avengers Academy.

@bkmeijer1 - I get a bit concerned with too many super hero Academies that it’ll make top MCU priority (Xavier’s school) feel less special by comparison. Just in recent memory we have Umbrella Academy, Wednesday, Gen V, and too many other less known ones to list here about schools featuring unique and special people - it feels like the genre is really saturated.

Now I’m sure the MCU needs something in this genre. But does it need multiple? Strange school, Avengers Academy, The Xavier School. It just seems like a lot.

@mountainman - didn't even think of that, but you're right.

When I say Avengers Academy though, I don't necessarily mean a school show. Just a way to set up all the Young Avengers before Secret Wars. Although I can see them just do a Young Avengers movie instead.

@bkmeijer1 - They’ll likely do Young Avengers over Avengers Academy. In the comics, these various school based titles don’t typically run at the same time.

I’m just really hoping the MCU does the Xavier school right and I’m fearful they are prematurely jumping on Wong’s popularity to give us something that will be generic teenager school based drama.

@bkmeijer1 - I have to agree with @mountainman. Too many "Academies" is unnecessary and will detract from the school for Gifted Youngsters.

I hope that "Strange Academy" is just a working title. I would rather see Wong's show turn into Agents of Atlas. I could see America teaming up with Jimmy Woo and assembling the ragtag group of Gods and Monsters.

@mountainman @TheRose - yeah, I think it's better to just skip academy stuff now too. Except for Xavier's school ofcourse.

That said, I do hope they do something with Wong's popularity. Whether that is guiding the Young Avengers or working with Woo, I'd like to see more Wong.

@bkmeijer1 - I quite liked Wong when he was a little bald-headed man-servant. Nothing to ashamed of being bald or man-serving. This guy should have been cast as Mordo.

@bkmeijer1 - Maybe Agents of Atlas or something. I also don’t really like the idea of America Chavez going to Kamer Taj. It doesn’t really fit her.

@mountainman - I agree. Much rather just her join up with Kate, Yelena, Cassie and Kamela as the Young Avengers with Wong as their Avengers-liaison.

Agents of Atlas would be great though. More Woo is always welcome.

Nova story "passing of the torch"? Doesn't Nova(Richard Rider) have to of been around for a while for this to happen.

Oh well won't be watching Nova if this turns out being true.

Hasn't Marvel learnt anything from the comics. They changed all their characters to younger versions about 10 years go i.e Nova,Ironheart and X-23 became Wolverine but the comics didn't sell so they had to bring back all the originals.

@marvel72 - I much rather see it being almost a buddy cop show of sorts. Richard is still trying to rebuild the Corps, and Sam is in his first class of new recruits. I'd watch that

Another passing of the torch? And this time with a character who's never been in the MCU? Yea, nah.
