Despite rumors that the planned Disney+ Wonder Man series might have been shelved amid Kevin Feige's recent declaration that Marvel Studios intends to cut back on its streaming content, a new report indicates that the project is in the process of casting its villain.
Daniel Richtman is reporting that Demetrius Grosse (Fear the Walking Dead, The Rookie, Lovecraft Country) is currently in talks to play Eric Williams, aka the Grim Reaper.
In the comics, the Reaper is the brother and arch nemesis of the titular hero, Simon Williams, who will be played by Watchmen and Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Ben Kingsley's Trevor Slattery is also expected to appear.
Wonder Man was originally introduced as an enemy of Tony Stark's before going on to join The Avengers as a hero while also launching a successful acting career, and it sounds like the character's Hollywood background might end up being an integral part of this show.
According to a previous report, the Disney+ series is being developed as a "Hollywood satire."
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is on board as a writer along with Brooklyn Nine-Nine, 30 Rock, and Community scribe Andrew Guest, who will also serve as showrunner. Guest also worked as a producer on Hawkeye.
No premiere date has been announced.
