After putting himself on the map with a standout performance as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, Giancarlo Esposito has become one of Hollywood's most in-demand actors. Recently, we've seen him steal the show in the likes of The Boys, Better Call Saul, and The Mandalorian, but when will he join the Marvel or DC Universe?

Fans frequently suggest Esposito for a number of superhero movie roles, with most of them being villains (like Doctor Doom, for example).

Those of you hoping to see Esposito's MCU debut eventually become a reality are likely to be pleased with this news, as the actor has now confirmed that he's met with Marvel Studios about a potential MCU role. "So, I have not worked for Marvel yet," Esposito said at the TJH Superhero Car Show & Comic Con in San Antonio, Texas. "I’ve been in a room with them and talked with them."

He didn't reveal who he's talked with them about, but did share some of the characters he's usually fan cast as before naming his personal favourite. "So, there’s been talk of Magneto, there’s been talk of Dr. Freeze, there has been talk of, who else are they talking about over there? Oh, Doom! And there is Professor X."

"Pick one? I’m going to go for something that is a little bit different. I’m going to go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X."

Recently, there have been rumours that Marvel Studios is eyeing Esposito for the MCU's Charles Xavier, so perhaps there is something to it? He'd certainly be an exciting choice to follow in the footsteps of Sir Patrick Stewart by playing the leader of the X-Men, though we can't help but think what a fantastic Doctor Doom he would also make.

What do you guys think?

NO.

While I like his character in the BB universe... his character portrayals are all one note. Race swapping can be fine sometimes but this one is a no no I'd say. I say that as a POC myself.

@UnderBelly - him being a hero instead of a villain character is exactly why I wanna see him do it.

I don't really care for raceswapping, but if I did this is one I wouldn't be against.

@bkmeijer1 - I admit my first comment doesn't read well, but it's still my initial thought.

Like I said sometimes race swapping for fairer representation is fine, but to me in the world of the X-Men it doesn't make sense. At its core the stories are actually about diversity, differences, racial inequalities, xenophobia, prejudice and intolerance . It has so many themes related to how society was in the 60s and 70s to even today. It was important for Prof X to be the one who was able to blend in and also be the one to spear head change partially down to his white privilege background.

The X-Men world has SOOO many rich characters of many different races that they can utilise for fair representation on screen and also touch upon subjects that will strike a cord with WW audiences.

Like I said I'm a person of colour myself but X-men is one that really doesn't need to change up the formula.

If they go the route of a British Prof X like the movie's I'd say Mark Strong.. if they go comic accurate and have him born in New York, I'd say Stanley Tucci. Both actors have great range. Giancarlo can act but I just don't see him in the role.

@UnderBelly - having read that explanation now, I totally understand your perspective now.

Just like how I don't think about raceswapping, I don't really think about race and all sorts of societal themes in these context. Now that I have though, I agree with you.

Think Tucci would be a great casting then.

@bkmeijer1 - Yeah those are 2 bald actors that I think can do justice to it. I'm sure there's a few others who may be willing to shave their head or take off their wigs for the role like Mickey Rourke or John Travolta? 🤣 na I'm playing.

@UnderBelly
Gotta say, i find myself in the same boat and couldn't agree more with everything you've said.
