In the crowded streaming landscape, Amazon Studios is aiming to push boundaries that Netflix and Hulu haven't. In addition to the Lord of the Rings series currently in development by the company, the studio is aiming to develop a high-budget science fiction series as well, coming in the form of Tales From The Loop.

The prolific streaming studio has ordered the high concept series for an eight episode first season. The program, which is inspired by the works of Swedish artist Simon Stalenhag, will be executive produced by The Batman director Matt Reeves with his production company 6th & Idaho involved. Nathaniel Halpern, known for FX's Legion, will take the reigns as showrunner.

Check out the synopsis of the show, as described by Deadline:

Based on the acclaimed art of Swedish artist Stalenhag, Tales from the Loop explores the town and people who live above “The Loop,” a machine built to unlock and explore the mysteries of the universe – making things possible that were previously relegated only to science fiction. In this fantastical, mysterious town, poignant human tales are told that bare universal emotional experiences while drawing on the intrigue of genre storytelling.
