Amazing VFX Featurette For OBLIVION Focusing On The Sky Tower

A new featurette for Oblivion - directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Tom Cruise, focuses on the 'Sky Tower' and the ingenuity of the VFX team to create the surrounding troposphere of the high-rising outpost.

Highlights:
- The Sky Tower is 3,000 ft in the air.
- Principal photography took the crew to the Haleakala volcano in Maui where they captured moving clouds.
- The captured footage was front projected onto screens surrounding the set.

I imagine this allowed Kosinski and co. to save a lot of money on post production VFX. The above footage also contains some new shots of Tom Cruise in action and the neat futuristic tech in the movie. Are you intrigued enough to go see Oblivion opening weekend or will you wait for positive/negative word-of-mouth?

Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Living and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands. You know.... when you are one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth and you see something that is clearly wrong - you HAVE to stop and help, because - you know - ONLY YOU can!.

Tom Cruise. What a twat.
