Following the first wave of (mostly very positive) reviews for Denis Villeneuve's Dune, Warner Bros. has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette which spotlights the various main characters and warring houses of the upcoming sci-fi epic.

The 4:30 video includes interviews with the likes of Timothée Chalamet (Paul Atreides), Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica), Zendaya (Chani), and Javier Bardem (Stilgar), as well as some intriguing - not to mention visually stunning - new footage. The villainous Harkonnens haven't really been highlighted as much as the more heroic characters up until now, but we see quite a bit of 'em here while gaining a better idea of the Baron's machinations.

If you've read Frank Herbert's novel, you may actually spot a few spoiler-y shots here, but they probably won't stand out if you're unfamiliar with the source material.

Check out the "Royal Houses" featurette below, along with a new Dolby Cinema poster featuring Paul traversing the perilous desert of Arrakis.

Dune follows the Atreides family as they relocate to the desolate planet of Arrakis to assume control of the production of the most valuable resource in the galaxy, the Spice Melange. Unfortunately, an act of treachery soon makes an outcast of The Duke Atreides' youngest son Paul, and he must accept his destiny as a powerful prophet of the Arrakis natives known as The Fremen.

Tell us, do you plan on seeing Dune on the big screen when it releases on October 22?

I bet it’s better than the haters are making it out to be. At least that’s my hope 😂

My brother and I are dropping LSD for this one so I’m sure I’ll love it regardless.

@Shroombeast - is it hard to find round your place of residence? It takes a lot of good luck, no doubt. I try to do it once a month cuz for me at least, I find it therapeutic to be forced to reconcile my real self with my subconsciously designed self. It’s a nice reality check, as ironic as such a statement may sound.

@McMurdo - I'm not sure how available it is where I live, my problem is that I don't currently have any good contacts. Plus good quality LSD is getting hard to find these days and I like to know exactly what I'm taking.

@McMurdo - Man, I'm not sure I could sit through a three-hour movie in public on an acid trip. I'm just going to get mega, mega stoned, which is my usual routine for the big tentpoles.

While I want to see a semi accurate modern version of Dune, this is gonna flop harder than my first marriage.
I just don't see part 2 getting made at all, barring a very surprising outcome at the box office.

@Feralwookiee - The best going for Dune is that Legendary seems really invested in this property and recognizes that WB is undermining it even more with a dual release so those circumstances might be enough for Legendary to consider doing another one or at least I hope so.

As someone who wants to get into the books, how do I do it? How many are there in total and what's the chronological order?

@MCUKnight11 - They're meant to be read in the order of release: Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse: Dune. His son has written a bunch of prequel novels over the past 20 years, but they're a lot pulpier, to the point that they feel connected to his father's stuff in only the most superficial ways. Very Warhammer 40K esque, as opposed to the much more political/philosophical stuff his dad wrote.

It's a weird ride. Having read them all multiple times over the years, I'm not even sure how much I like some of as much as I am completely smitten by the universe Herbert created. By the time you get to God Emperor, you're thousands of years separated from the original novel and almost all of the characters you were first introduced to are long since dead and virtually forgotten. So it's definitely not for everyone.

@MCUKnight11 - Just start with the first one; the original Dune. It's a masterpiece. Then if you want more after reading the first one, go for Dune Messiah. After that it's a little different. There are some wild things in the further parts that not all the fans of the first one like completely. Many would recommend sticking just with the ones that Frank Herbert wrote himself, his son wrote more but apparently those are not as good.

But yeah, the first one. Everybody should read that book. That thing was decades ahead of its time.
